Does any one make a 4 or 5" oval step bar that is powder coated? I'm trying to protect the side of my truck from chips without going to running boards. Thanks for the help!

I thought they would help on mine but it didn't, But I did need them for wife to get in truck. I got a set of mud flaps that are solid molded plastic, and they help some. But I am still getting nasty dings in the paint. I am getting really good with the touch up paint though. If you do go with the powder coated you will end up with the dings and chips on them also. IMHO I would go with stainless steel. I ordered a set for both of my trucks from CABELAS and they were only about $295 each set with shipping included.

I wouldnt suggest powdercoated steps to anyone... Unless you live in a salt free enviroment I have never seen them not have rust after a short period of time. I would suggest buy stainless or else take the powdercoated ones and get them sprayed with a truck bed liner.

I have had Westin platinum series tube steps on my truck for 3 heavy winters in MA, they are black powder coated stainless steel, no rust, chips or anything and if they do they are warranteed for life. They use a a lot of sand salt and chemicals all winter long on the roads here. They definetly help, I have mopar mud flaps as well and usually get a large ice/salt clump that freezes the front mud flaps and bars, I just kick it off if it gets too big.

That's the direct opposite of my experience with powder coated Westin bars. They had chips that I repeatedly touched up and I did get about 8 years out of them, but they looked bad and when I finally replaced them they were rusted through in several places.

Were they platinum series? the platinum series have a lifetime warrantee with free replacement and are made from stainless steel.

Don't know if those were available in '95 when I bought mine. They definately were not stainless. My limited experience with powder coating hasn't been good. My Mr Pickup grill guard needs recoated with something or replaced. It looks about the same as the tube steps, but not rusted through. (yet).
