Does your Dodgezilla huff/bark??

I have a red Cummins valve cover that I want to powder coat blue. I am going to bead blast the red off at work but my question is how do I protect the raised letters on the cover during the powder coat process. I want them to show through the color of the un painted cover ( silver ) not blue like the rest of the cover. Do I have to try and tape off all of the raised portion that I want left without powder? Is there an easier way to do it??

TIA

Dave

If you are going to coat it yourself, they make tape that will withstand the temps of powder coating. I'd just tape the letters then coat it, maybe try removing the tape b4 curing. If it doesn't mess with the powder then go for it. I stripped mine using some industrial strength Zip stuff I got from Lowes. I've heard that p/c can be tough to remove.

Hey Dave I will ask Termite Steve how he did his. I think he just sanded it off when it was done. I saw Steve's truck Saturday and it looks really nice.

I thought Powder Coat was applied as a powder and then heated to liquify and harden. Can't you just apply the powder and then wipe off the areas you don't want covered?

Hey Blair... yeah I would be curious to know how Steve did his. Since I am not doing the powder myself, I want to give it to them ready to shoot.
