I am getting the bug to put dual stacks on the truck. But I'm not sure about the chrome stacks, I thought about black set instead. I was wonder if I could have some heavy walled pipe (4" or 5") powder coated black and would it handle the heat?

Where I really wanted the coating would be from the time that it goes thru the bed on to the end.
The truck is a maroon color and it looks alot better with black parts instead of the chrome. Also with the heavy wall stuff, I am thinking it would have a real nice sound.

Rick, just read your thread,I finished my stacks yesterday,I ran from stock 3''down pipe to 3x4x4 tee/wye and up with twin 4''no res or muff,it is pretty loud,I may put the stock res back on before wye since it goes from 3 to 4''. I got all stuff at a truck place here in s/j ca. I got aluminized steel 10'piece $45 ells about $24 each and special s/s clamps where flex slides over pipe, because s/s flex and 4'' pipe have different o-dimensions. I have a powder coat shop on same sreet as my shop,he said he could do both for $100. I am considering a clear coat over powder to make it with stand the heat better. The welding of aluminized steel was a snap [mig with gas]any questions feel free to e-mail. good luck,JDM JOE

The powder coat will burn off probably 2-3ft from the turbo. After that (esp. with a flex elbow) it should last awhile. You can get black Jet Hot done for $10/ft and that will last for ever.

Have used parts that have been Jet Hot coated. Real nice stuff, your stacks would look great and last a LONG time if you had them done that way. My only question is, i have never heard them mention if it is affected buy UV light? Like, will the color fade? Give them a call and ask before you spend the money to have them coated.

I have signs I make powder coated often. There is different kinds of powder coat - some UV resistant and some heat resistant. Epoxy is the most durrable but will not take sunlight. Urathane will take sunlight, but not sure of heat. $100 seems way too high for 2 pipes, but that may be their minumum order.

I powder coat most brackets, bike frames, K-frames, but for intake or exhaust parts I use the high heat coatings, you can get them in aluminum or black. They will be better than powder for exhaust componants.
I use AirBorn Coatings exclusivly, never a problem, always look great!
