I went to the dealer this morning to have them turn on some options on the ECM. I asked them to turn on the High Idle option, the Fog light on with bright lights option and the Power Accessory option. The service writer wrote down everything I asked for. After a short wait he came and got me and said the High Idle was turned on but the other features I was wanting can only be done on 06 models and is not available in 05.

Does this sound right or is he shooting me a line? :-{}

By the way, High Idle option works great. :)

That's the first I've heard about the fogs on with the brights. I didn't know you could do it. If it does work someone let us know.

According to the mechanic at the dealer it is an option on the 06. I found out about it by reading the online instructions for a Bullydog Tripple Three. The accessory option leaves your accessories on until you open the door or it times out. the fog light option leaves the fog lights on during high beam. This is what I have been able to search out on the web. Ho ya, there is also a option for daytime running lights too. The mechanic said the only one available for the 05 is the high idle option. It works great.

I have the high idle and accessory, but this is the first I've heard of the high beam w/ fogs. I'll have to ask if that can be done on an 07.

Thanks,

Kyle

I don't know if it is the same on the newer trucks, but in mine all you have to do to leave the fogs on with the brights is to remove the foglight relay and place a jumper between pins #2 and #5. All the relay does on my truck is to turn the lights off when the brights come on. The pin numbers are from the smaller black relay, not the larger one with pins 85, 86 etc.

The accessory option leaves your accessories on until you open the door or it times out. the fog light option leaves the fog lights on during high beam.

i want both of these for my 04. .

can future smarty upgrades do this???

Nick,

From what I understand the smarty can only do the High Idle option. Not sure if it can do this for the 04. I was really disappointed to find out I could do the accessory option on my 05.

It was my understanding that daytime running lights required an additional module to activate and was standard in Canada and required a wiring change for U. S. A. trucks??

Nope, third gens have the feature built in (at least through 05).

You just have to change the country code in the ECM to Mexico or Canada.

High Idle: what is this? Is this the thing where you can set the idle with the cruise control?

Power Accessory: Most of my newer vehicles have done this. Oddly, I didn't even notice that my truck was not doing it! :)

Fog lights: "Allnew2Me", the relay trick works on my 01 Jeep, but not on these newer trucks. I'd really be surprised that this can be changed by the dealer in the computer. EVERY vehicle I've owned with factory fog lights since at least 1985 won't allow the brights and fogs to be on at the same time. I assume this is somehow federally mandated to the manufacturer's, so I'd be very surprised if it can be fixed with software changes and allowed by the manufacturer to be done by the dealer. I thought the only "fix" for this was the Bright Box which tricks the computer.

By law, you can't run the foglights and highbeams together, however you can run driving lights and highbeams together... ?

If they inspect your car in PA, they do check and if the foglights are hooked to the highbeams (or don't turn off when the highbeams are enabled), you fail inspection. And this is supposed to be federal, not state law. I know I have had friends pulled over and fined for it before too.

I know why you want it, but just a heads up and to keep in the back of your mind.

I spoke to 2 different dealerships and they said that they had never heard of "turning on" the power accessory option. Neither place offered to look into for me, the only help I got was a suggestion to call Dodge. So, I called Dodge's 800 number and they looked up my truck and said it didn't come with that option.

Can anyone provide more information so I can provide it to the dealership and have them look into it for me. Thanks.
