Overflow valve question

Anyone know what would cause a power assist pump (steering / brakes) to overflow? It has happened twice now. Each time about a 5" round puddle on the shop floor. I have not added any lately and the level was at the hot mark when hot.

I'm not sure of the circumstances of your incidents... . but... I do know this.....

When you push a Dodge or Ford around without the engine running and turn the steering wheel... it will leak fluid like a son of a gun out of the pump. For some reason all the fluid returning from the box overwhelms the pump's capacity... . and you see the end result

These trucks are also known for eating pitman shaft seals... . not a tough job... . but messy.

Hope this helps...

circumstances

I came off the highway (50 mph for about 20 minutes) slowed down slowly, turned into my driveway (90 degree right) turned into my carport (another 90 degree right) let the truck sit idle for about 30 seconds and shut it off. Had lunch (20 minutes) and went back out to the carport. Under the truck was a puddle of oil, and the res. of the power assist had a long drip all the way down the neck from the cap. I opened the cap and more flowed to the ground.

Could it have been too hot? The oil didn't feel hot... and it is only 55 outside.

VERY odd.....

Never heard of this happening.....

It's a sign... . your truck wants you to unleash the fury!!! It's just marking it's territory in the carport until you decide to spend some $$ on it to make some more power... . :D

If it would behave long enough to let me save up some money I would take it to visit Piers! He is only about 30 minutes frome my work you know. However it seems to be one thing after another lately. Radiator, then brakes,... just as the song goes... on and on and on and on and on.

Now im thinkin i may need another power assist pump. How can i test it?

you could check pressures... . but good luck getting those rusty lines off the steering box... ...

I'm sure you could find the pressure specs somewhere... .
