what does it mean when you try to build boost by power braking but once you get to 1800-1900 the engine starts to surge? transmission slippage?

You want to be REAL CAREFUL with power braking. When I was getting my trans done at DTT, Bill said that you can twist off the output shaft of the trans. He said that if you build too much boost, that it will twist and shear the output shaft.

Thanks for the heads up. I have a billet input but I hear ya. Don't want to take that chance. Unfortunately I am trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with my lower end torque and befoe today i suspected I was loosing power through the trans. Took it to my trans guy and he drove it. He says no-way and that is was a fuel management or computer issue. Guess it's good news and bad news as I had hoped I was on to something.

The bilett input WON'T help you. The problem is the OUTPUT shaft. I guess someone is making up some bilett outputs but I heard they are expensive.

TDR Member OPZ01 designed a bulletproof output shaft and the price is very reasonable

hope this helps

Theres two pictures of mine. I'll have a couple more pictures of a "complete" shaft and then the broken shaft when I get them off the camara.

When I finally get around to breaking my output shaft, I will be putting in a billet one. How hard is the fix. Do you have to drop and tear into the trans to remove it from the inside or can you get to it by just pulling the transfer case?

Kevin

Remove skid plate.

Remove rear driveshaft.

Disconnect front driveshaft at axle.

Remove transfer case. 6 nuts

Jack up transmission to remove transmission pad (so you don't have to pull crossmember)

Remove overdrive section of transmission. 7 bolts Make sure you support it so you don't break the intermediate shaft.

At this point I took it to a transmission shop to have the shaft switched out because you need a 3 ton press and an alignment tool to reassemble.

Then put it back together.

Took us about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to pull it all taking our time. (2 people Bs'in as we worked)

Took about 2 hours to go back together. (3 people)

Jack up the rear of truck to minimize fluid loss.

Put the gearshift in Low 1, and make sure you line it up correctly on reassembly otherwise your in for a struggle.

Definatly easier with 2 people, and even better with 3 people.

Thats all I can think of right this minute.

The Lil Billet shaft is a direct swap. The Big Billet shaft requires machining to the transfer case.
