Hey guys , I recieved this E-mail today from an old friend . I've been trying to get him to join the TDR for years now , but since he is a fellow Cummins owner I hope we can help him out . Maybe if we help him fix this problem he'll finally want to join our little support group . Thanks in advance for the help .
I'm currenly troubleshooting a gremlin in my truck and thought I would get some expert advise. Current issues: The truck has been diagnosed as needing a new Power Control Module by the Dodge dealer in town. Their quote was $1,500. They said it needs to be programmed for my individual truck, so I can't just grab one off another scrap 2000 Dodge Ram diesel. Sometimes the truck doesn't start so I disconnect the battery for 30-seconds and then it starts. Sometimes the truck doesn't turn off, so pull the fuel relay fuse and the truck turns off. It's becoming a pain and people are starting to laugh at me.
So last night I'm online and I see a bunch of websites that sell "Power Control Modules" for around $250 that "install within 15-minutes". Is this what the dealer is talking about? If so, I can probably install something like this. It's just the more I read about it, the more this seems like an upgrade than a replacement. The dealer mentioned they have to program my VIN number into the new PCM. How would I do that?
