As far as i know the injectors and ECM are different. I just put a manual trans ECM on my truck. Seat of the pants dyno says I gained some power( 10-20hp).

So, does anyone know the answer to the question regarding whether it is a straight swap to put a 5 speed ECM in place of an auto ECM? I know for a fact that the fueling and timing curves are completely different between the two ECM's even though they have the same max HP and TQ for 2001. On my 2001 auto, I swapped my HY35 for an HX35 an ended up with some turbo lag. There isn't a lag with the HX35 on the 5 speed due to the different curves. I'd love to put the 5 speed ECM in my truck to fix the lag - or reprogram my ECM with the 5 speed data!

Not trying to be smart or anything, but I just got rid of the auto, and bought the 5spd. The power difference is more than just electronics and engine parts. I've pulled heavy loads with both, and there's no question, the stick is the way to go if you want a pulling machine. The autos are great with the smaller loads.

FWIW, I was told once that the auto uses about 15 hp to turn the transmission which would also account for the less power theory. I've had two autos and 3 manuals and would tend to agree.
