Have any of you had experience with the Power Edge EZ box with an unmodified stock AT? The advertising blurb states "The Power Edge EZ was developed with the towing application in mind. The power and torque produced by the Power Edge EZ does not exceed the truck's power

train design. "

I ran the EZ with stock transmission. for a few months and had no problems. Have since installed Bill K's TC and VB. Do yourself a favor though and install gauges.

I've had an EZ for about six months and logged several thousand miles towing a 10,000lb. fifth wheel (a lot of them at WOT over Colorado passes). I haven't had a hint of transmission trouble. The extra power is well worth the cost.

KevinK when towing how much do you use OD. I to pull a 10,000 lb trailor with an EZ installed. Have only pulled one time over Donner Summit in the Sierras. Almost didn't need direct except on the steepest hill but am very concerned that leaving it in OD may be a mistake

what setting do you have the EZ on and what happened to your fuel mileage?

John,

I started out with setting 3, but put it down to 2 to reduce the smoke at low boost. The back of the truck and the front of the trailer were getting pretty sooty. I do not see any drop off in performance. I have a hill that I always try while on the way home from work (from a dead stop at the bottom, how fast am I going at the top) and I see no change between the two settings. I do see a big difference in smoke. As far as mileage goes, on setting 3, my mileage dropped about 1mpg. On setting 2, it seems to be about where is was before. I've certainly never seen any mileage improvement with the EZ. Towing back and forth to California, I averaged about 10mpg (@75mph).

Did you use the stock exhaust system or did you upgrade to a 4"?

Kevin,

I added a 14cm turbine and 4" exhaust before I ever added the EZ. I can't say that I noticed any more power, but EGTs were about 100 degrees cooler (I now max out at about ~1120). The bigger turbine did add a bit more turbo lag. That could be why my truck smokes so bad, it takes longer to build decent boost.

Drytting,

I almost always leave the transmission in OD while towing, unless I'm just cruising along at 40-55mph (lower speed limit or curvy road). In the hills, if I'm slowing down, it's usually because I don't have enough power and the transmission will shift down itself. I've talked to Bill K. from DTT several times and he says that as long as your RPMs stay above 1700, there is no need to manually shift down. Below that limit, you are more likely to have TC shudder or slippage.

EZ

Ive been using one since the first of March and towed several times. I really like the extra power, it makes quite a difference. I can get a little better mpg if i keep my foot out of it. I can cause the trans. to slip if I get on it to hard in OD at low RPM so I try to keep them above 1800, this has happened once.
