I have been running the PowerEdge box on my ETH for almost a month now and can echo all the positive comments stated by everyone else previously. Brett and Taylor are knowlegable, honest, sincere and great to work with. They are also quite modest and don't toot their own horns much. I have toured thier operation and met their techincal staff and have come away quite impressed.
There are few observations I'd like to make concerning the PowerEdge.
1. To my knowledge, the PowerEdge is the only box wich is controlled by an actual CPU. The CPU constantly monitors what is going on with fuel, boost, timing, etc. This way custom fuel curves can be programed into the unit which permitt such things as gradual increases in the fuel dilervery which overcomes problems with the sudden surge of power and smoke associated with the Blue Box for example. Eventually it will also be able to control timing also. They are experimenting with tming to increase power and reduce EGTs.
2. Everything about the PowerEdge exudes quality. Nothing here looks like it's from Radio Shack. The case is extruded aluminum, not stampted. The connector which hocks to the to the fuel pump wire is a very good idea. They have run tests and it is able handle all the current for which the wire is rated and for extended periods of time. Best of all when removed, it's very difficult to tell if a wire has ever had the connector hocked to it.
3. The 3 power levels are selectable on the fly. They are also custum programable by Edge Products for what ever power levels anyone would want. If you like smoke, that 3rd level can be setup to make lots of it with stock injectors. I personally have tried 3 different sets of power levels and feel the out of the box settings fit my needs quite nicely.
4. An EGT guage is a must and in my opinion should be required with the use of any type of fueling device. During testing the EGTs of my ETH were reaching 1300 degrees at 32 to 33 lbs of boost, runnig empty on a flat stretch of road going very fast. That was with Brett driving. Personally, it's not a problem with me because I don't ever drive that fast myuself. I also find that backing out of the throttle to reduce temps isn't all that bad because even at partial throttle, with the PowerEdge enguaged, my truck is producing more power than at full throttle, stock. But if you're towing and or going up any long grades the pyro is a definate must.
4. Actual fuel mileage, if anything, has gone up after installation. I'm getting 18+ mpg with 90% in town driving and lots of hot rodding around. However, the trip computer is no longer very accurate and at my last fillup was reading 3 mpg better than what my truck was actually getting.
5. The propane option certainly looks of higher quality than the Bully Dog units I've seen. They tell me EGTs are a problem when running the propane and the power increases aren't as great as with the PowerEdge module by itself. But the increases are cumalative if a person wants to run both. Installation loks slick and simple. The PowerEdge box itself helps control the propane and physically looks the same as the regular box with the addition of another button and light on the right hand side. Both Brett and Taylor are running propane on their trucks out of one of those 11 lb Hyster propane tanks located in the bed. They tell me one propane tankfull last two diesel tankfulls. They say the part which bothers them the most is the hassle of having to fill the propane bottle every other diesel fillup.
5. If you're running an ETH then I recommend you seriuosly look at this product because when it's turned off you'll swear a third of your engine has quit working. Turning the unit on during acceleration definately makes a big difference - like kicking an automatic down into passing gear.
