Where do most of you get power for the fuel pressure gauge. I just got a westec gauge and you need 12v. Should I go back to the fuse box or tap off an exsisting wire, how would you do either? How did you get through the firewall?

Thanks for any information.

Peter

Peter, I tapped into the fuse that powers the instrument cluster, which is located inside the cab. My method was to use a mini add a fuse http://www.sportys-catalogs.com/acb/showdetl.cfm?&DID=10&Product_ID=801&CATID=6 . Looks like this...

Works well enough, though you may or may not have a problem with it seating in the fuse holder. Other members have just tapped into the wire coming from the back of the light switch. I don't recall the color, but I could look it up in the service manual if you want to go that route. Either source will allow you to dim your gauge lights with the OEM dimmer switch.

To get the wire(s) into the cab, I used a metal coat hanger, made it straight and poked it through the rubber boot that protects the main wiring harness, on the firewall and visible below the steering column. Just push it through the boot, being cautious to stay away from the existing wiring, tape the end of the wire that you want in the cab to the hanger and then pull it back into the cab. You can also use the rubber boot that protects the cable for the parking brake, in the same manner. Single wires are a piece of cake to feed through with the hanger. A real test of your courage and integrity is to try pulling a TST PM fueling box wiring harness through  ;) .

Hope this helps !!!

I tapped into the switched power on one of the cig. lighters. You can also use this to provide dimmer lighting for the gauges.

PSL53, get power from your fuse box by tapping the fused side of #5 and #8. One is key on power the other is lights on power, forget which, but it's simple to figure out. You can also ground the gauge to the body here. As Scott stated, the single wire from the sender will be a piece of cake :D . Have Fun, Jim G.

After you remove the OEM pillar cover you can open the door and remove the fuse panel cover. You can see right up through from the fuse panel to the dash. I tried all of the little fuse cheater clips to no avail so I just bent the bare gauge wires into a U around the fuse spade and shoved her in. Worked for me. I don't remember which fuse, but I will go look if you wasnt me to.
