I am installing gauges on apillar mount. Where is the best place to tap in light power that works with the switch? I have a1999 Its going on

I took DC latest word about tapping into the headlight switch without a relay to heart. I pulled out my switch and found the light that powers the dash light. You can do this with a test light. When you find a hot wire, adjust your dash light intensity. If you are on the correct wire, the test light will dim/brighten with the adjustment of the dash lights. After you find the wire, tap into it and run the wire to a relay. I have my relay hooked up under the dash. I powered the relay from an empty slot on the fuse block. The lights on my gauges do not dim or brighten with the adjustment of my dash lights, this is the only draw back. But, If my headlight switch does go out (as many have) I didn't want DC giving me a bunch of crap for drawing power off of the headlight switch without a relay, even though the gauge lights don't draw much power.
