My Wife And I Are Deciding To Wait To Most Likely Jump To A 03' From Our Twelve Valve. The Question I Have I Run (give Or Take A Few) 400hp And 950 Ft/lbs What Has Any Body Done Anything As Far As A Box, Turbo And Injectors? I Work With A Guy Who Is An Edge Rep And Tells Me Alot About The Edge Truck And Have Now Read More About It With The New Tdr Magizine. But He Is A Die Hard Ford Fan And Hasn't Heard Or Played With The New Common Rail.

What Can Anyone Tell Me In Keeping The Power Alive And Going New?? I Woul Like To Do Those Three Things Box Turbo And Injectors.

I am running a tst box, kwikspool b1,4inch exhaust, afe intake & a pusher pump to make 491 hp on level 7 on the tst, but more inportant I am towing on level 5 that made 474 hp and 979 tq and egt's are safe and I am at high altitude.

So Then The New Sensory Doesn't Restrict To Much As Long As You Just Basicaly Fog The Sensor With A Box. I'm Just Worried Because I Know I Be Happy With The Horse Power I Could Make In A 24v But If You Guys Are Getting That Much Out Of A Common Rail That Comforts Me A Little. But Now The All Time Question About Money, How Much More Did You Spend On The Turbo And Box To Fit? Also What About Injectors.

as far as injectors goes the tst puts more fuel down than the rail can support so you may get in there faster and gain some hp but you can add a pressure box and get it that way.

cost of turbo $1500
cost of exhaust $350
cost of afe $250
cost of box $850

look of guy in mustang gt that just got out run by 7500# truck... . priceless:-laf

Robert,

What kind of boost numbers are you seeing from the KSB-1? I've got the B1-04 and the TST elbow. I'm wastegating at 42 lbs but can spike to 55 before the elbow will let the gate open. I'll be working on the TST elbow's relief port tomorrow to get rid of the spike and let the gate open faster at 42 lbs.

Richard

Oh, yeah. 5x5 and the VA at 100% puts me at 1150* sustained wot pulling and the power is unreal!!!!!!

I was told that the wastegate on the B1-04 was a 38 lb. However, after a lot of testing the gate opens at 28 lbs. Not what I was told. Why Ken is putting a 28 lb gate on these is beyond me. I'm going to call him today after I confirm that the gate is a 28 lb with a controllable air source. A stock or open elbow only gives 28 lbs sustained no matter how much fuel you throw to it.

Richard

the wastegate is blocked off on this turbo but at 5000ft. it will hit just under 50 psi but at high altitude it will only give 40~42 psi and then it will surge real bad so I back out of it. I asked some others about a wastegate and I was told it would not fit due to the clearance to the block... is this not the case??

I want to get twins but with an hx40 as top turbo I dont know how it will spool at high altitude with the auto trans, and piers said they are not putting the hx 35 kits together and said I should wait for there next kit which will use stock turbo. That kit then will also fit my b1 as top turbo.

Check my gallery and you'll see some very clear pictures of the wastegate. Ken modify's the mounting bracket and shortens the rod and it clears without issues. I figured out my boost problems today also. Now I spike to 48 lbs and settle back to 42 lbs under full load. Exactly where I wanted it to be.

Richard

I noticed during my first tow that I couldn't push the B1-04 over 28 lbs of boost. If I added more fuel via the TST or the VA all I got was higher egt's and no more boost. This led me to believe that the wastegate was opening at 28 lbs and not 38 lbs. I installed the TST elbow and with the screw bottomed I could hit and hold 40 lbs but I would spike to 55 which I wasn't comfortable with. I studied the TST elbow and I suspected that to get to 40 lbs the screw was so far in that it wasn't allowing the VOLUME neccessary to quickly open the wastegate. Hence the spikes to 55 before settling back to the 40 I was looking for. So today I went to the shop and picked up and air pressure gauge and some fitting so I could simulate boost on the bench and see how long it would take to get the pressure neccessary to open the wastegate. Here is what I found.

The wastegate is a 38, but it's a full open 38! It actually starts to crack open at 28. As near as I can figure, due to the low drive pressures, even the slightest opening of the gate at 28 lbs is enough to stop boost from climbing dead in it's tracks. I spent a couple hour playing with the TST elbow and my own air source. What I found is exactly what I expected. The TST only bleeds about 5 lbs off and to hit 40 I had the screw bottomed which severely restricted the volume getting to the wastegate. It took about 2. 5 to 3 seconds for the TST elbow to allow full psi to the wastegate. Way to long to avoid spikes. I opened up the bleed hole to about a 10 lb bleed. This allowed me to back the screw out at least a full turn and get boost to the wastegate almost instantaneously. Before the modification even the slightest movement of the screw would cause drastic changes in the pressure differential but now a 1/4 turn is only about three lbs. I installed my newly modified elbow and went for a spin. First run gave 36 lbs and an instant opening of the wastegate. Half a turn in and the second run netted me spikes to 48 lbs max and it would instantly settle back to 42 lbs and hold time after time. Exactly what I was looking for. If you ease into it it climbs to 42 and stops cold. Hopes this all makes sense.

Richard

p. s. 5x5 plus 100% pressure on the VA now maxes egt's at 1150* wot under full load towing my trailer up hill. Just running wot up thru the gears never breaks 1050! Not bad for a single. This truck is unreal!
