Power lock problem

My passenger side rear door lock has quit working. It won't lock or unlock with the remote or inside switch. (manually it still works, I just seem to forget it) Of course I have an 8 year old son that runs to the truck and opens the door before I do the remote creating the honking and flashing chaos that a kid that age enjoys, but it's driving me nuts.

I looked in the repair manual and it says the lock motor and latch are integrated into a conveniently non-serviceable unit. (of course no good pictures) I'm just wondering if anyone else has had troubles and/or experience with theirs for hints on attacking this.

A few months ago my passenger side front power lock started intermittently not locking with the fob, switch or at cruise speed. Now I noticed the pass. rear lock doing the same. Keep me posted as to what you find for my dealer is busy for a while.

This exact same problem has happened to mine two months ago (left rear door). After investigating found the harness from the pillar to the door had broken wires in the rubber bellows from flexing. Just peel it back and I'm 99. 9% sure you will find this. This is very common in big rigs. Harness is over $200. 00 in Canada. Sorry don't remember the part number.

Thanks Dan, I'll check out the wires before tearing into the door. Something like that makes sense. It's seems much more than coincidental that the problem is the door my son uses 99% of the time.

Same exact problem. Passenger side rear door my son uses. Of-course it's intermittent and works whenever I'm at the dealer!

Wiring (as far asI can tell) seems intact. I have voltage at the B pillar connector to the door. (just behind the B pillar trim) I can't seem to get the connector off of the latch itself. I'm figuring it's the typical locking type, but I can't see it well. Flashlight, mirror, and small holes with linkages make it tough. I was hoping I could check the wires at the plug where it goes in to the latch/lock motor.

Gettting the trim panel off is very easy-- Inside handle bolt (10mm) and a single phillips head screw, then lift. I'm close to clipping the wires and leave it be, but maybe another day in a better mood I'll pull the latch out. I have to pick up my son at school today and don't want a door roped shut.

Update

Found the problem: Dan, YOU DA MAN! Bad wire-- It almost looked like it was cut. A quick solder and heat shrink and it's all good again.

I was able to disconect the wiring from the latch (fianally) and had no signal there, so I knew the problem was in the door wiring.

For those who run into the same problem, the rubber sleeve can be gently pried from the B pillar and brings the connector plug out. To get at the wires, you can peel back the rubber off the connector. I didn't see anything when I first looked, but I pushed the wires into the door and was able to slide it further back on the wires.

This just confirms that the membership to TDR is well worth it.



I just picked my truck up from the dealer after some warranty work and the rear passenger door lock was not working, used pete's advice and sure enough a purple and green wires are pinched in two. any ideas on repairing it or should I replace it? Thanks to all of you on TDR, saved me a nother nightmare trip to the dealer...
