My father in-law has lost power with his 93 D-250. It has to be held to the floor to get 50 mph. It is an automatic with 320,000 miles. It starts right up and shuts off fine. Doesn't blow any kind of smoke. It has a smooth idle but it does seem to skip through the RPM range. It was running fine 2 days ago but now it is a real dog. I told him to change the fuel filter and try injector clean to get rid of any water and help the fuel system. Any other ideas?

He's got a plugged up fuel filter - he got a **** load of fuel. This happened to me last weekend on the way through the Rocky Mountains - lucky I had a spare.

Spinning on the new one made her like new :-D

The way I did it was to spin the new one on almost all the way and spin the engine over with the key off by jumpering the starter terminals with a small wrench. When the diesel started to pour out of the filter real good, I spun it on the rest of the way and started her up. All told, it took ~15 minutes - this was the 1st time I ever changed the filter on my truck.

It looks like it was a combination of problems. #5 injector was fine at idle but wouldn't work when the go pedal went down. The pump was also going south so it will be replaced also.
