Going under the knife

Had to work all nite coz a tornado rumbled thru the south west part of town last night. Saw a 3 foot piece of 2x6 that had pierced the metal roof on a car!! Tornados are awesome machines!! We lucked out, no major injuries or death.

Tornados

Really bad what you folks have been going through the last few day (and looks like the next few days). I was raised in Southeast Oklahoma and I know/have seen what a tornado can do. Hope you have a storm shelter. lay low. bg

We definitely know the way to the basement! But when this weather starts up, I havta get in my work car and go out cloud watching. . I was born and raised in the panhandle of Oklahoma and spent my adult life in Kansas, and have yet to actually see one!! Been around the results a lot, tho... Thats enough...

I spent 24 of my 30 years in Oklahoma, and seen plenty of what twisters can do..... straws stuck into telephone poles, this house taken, but the one 10 feet away untouched..... etc. They are just like a woman, totally unpredictable in their behavior and indiscriminate in their wrath.

Born and raised in OK. Grew up in Enid, right in the heart of the alley. When I was in high school, my dad and I stood on the driveway and watched one go over our house (stupid thing to do). I've probably seen around 10 or 20 with my own eyes, but luckily never have been hit.

I'm glad nobody was killed in this one. That is a great testimony to the weather service and the training of the general public. My nephew was at work in Moore when it plowed through, but thankfully, he wasn't in the path.

I don't mind living down here by the Gulf. You get a few days notice when a hurricane is headed for you as opposed to 5 - 10 minutes with a tornado. :D :D

With exception to the one that hit Jasper, most tornadoes in South Texas are usually F1 or F2.

Remember that in twister country: Trailer House = Tornado Magnet

Hey MtnGoat,

I was about 15 - 20 miles west of you last night taking care of my horses. The sun was shining through the clouds and it looked very pretty. I was listening to the radio and heard the announcers say to look out in Eudora. That is getting too close for comfort.

It was good to hear that no one was hurt. It could have been much worse.

I was born in Enid, I believe it was at St. Charles Hospital, that sound right? All my family homesteaded and made their homes in Laverne, OK, as a matter of fact my cousin is the Police Chief there. He's about the only relation left there. Couldn't pay me to live there! Too hot and dry, and not a lot to do!

That is why my cousin left Kansas. Where he was working, they told him before they hired him on, that there was girl behind every tree... he said he didn't find a tree. :)

The closest I've been to a tornado was about 30 miles away, if that. The storm hadn't gotten to me yet, but I was working in the field at about 9pm, spring of last year or 2 ago, and could see 2 tornados with the lightning flashes. Once I could see them got the heck out of there and a few minutes later the rain hit.

We had 2 hit the last place that we lived. With exception of pulling the porch roof away from the house, it never received any other damage. It wasn't attached to the house with much so it didn't do much with the rest of the house.

Tornado went through town here in Jackson Mo Tuesday night also. Spent the last days attached to a chainsaw so people can get in and out to start rebuilding or bulldozing what little is left. Blew 4 houses away (fairly new Brick) blew 4 business' away, 12 houses will probably be bulldozed and 184 may be rebuilt. A customer of mine showed me last night where the tornado had pierced the door jambs to his garage with shingles from his neighbors no-longer existing house. pretty tough to get an asphault shingle to go through a treated 2x6 wrapped in aluminum.

I don't know when you were born there, but while I was growing up there the only two hospitals were St. Mary's and Bass Memorial.

I was born in OKC at Baptist Memorial. We moved to Enid, because they were going to bus my sister to a school on the other side of town.

I found plenty to do there, which is why I had to move. :D :D

I didn't know you lived in Enid Morph. If anyone you know says Eric Payne did something stupid: Don't believe them. :D :D

lol, I was stationed at Vance for my last year in the Air Force, then Went to college at Norther Oklahoma College for two years, during that time we lived in the Garber area in one the X's grandparent's old houses.

This happened back in the late 30s or 40s. There was a tornado in Smithville,Tx and my dad was at his mothers house standing out in the yard watching(think he was 21 then) it when the next thing he knew it had picked him up. He said he remembers seeing cows, horses, etc going around in circles. It carried him about a mile and set him down on the banks of the Colorado river. Somebody found him there. Did not hurt him but they said he was white as a sheet. I guess he was in shock. Ever since that day when a thunderstorm or bad weather was coming he could tell you in advance. You could not keep him at home did not matter what time of day/night it was.
