Just wondering if any damage can be done by using more additive than is called for.



I've gotten in the habit of adding an ounce or two every time I fill up, and that's usually from the half tank mark.

I would think you are not even putting in the recommended amount altho you didn't state which one you are using. I use Dieselfuel Supplement+Cetaneboost during the winter and Dieselkleen+Cetaneboost during the summer and add 1 oz for every 3 gallons which is what the bottle recommends. Altho if you have concentrated stuff the ratio is a bit different. I got the ratios below right off the PS site, actually I could double my dosage to get the max cetane which would be 1 oz for 1. 5 gallons

I wouldn't think its hurting anything. I have always put a little more than it calls for. I haven't had any problems.

PS is a alcohol based additive I think. I have used as much as three times the recommended amount without any trouble. You could probably use more than that without any damage IMO.

I use stanadyne performance formula and I usually put a whole bottle to a tank full. a bottle is good for 60 gallons of diesel

I asked my diesel mechanic about PS once. He said he asked the diesel injection pump rebuilder ( where he send his inj pumps to be overhauled ) about PS. The rebuilder said that he when he rebuilds pumps for people who use PS regularily, the o rings and gaskets inside the pump are cracked and dried up because of the additives in PS.



If you want lubricity use Standyne or just 2 cycle engine oil (it's ashless) and designed to be burned in an engine. Add 8 ounces (or more) per 16 Gal of fuel. Walmart sells 2. 5 gallon bottles of pennzoil (?) 2 cycle lube for around $6 and Autozone sells a little bottle that has markings on the side for ratios (go 1/2 the oil on the 100:1 to get to 200:1) I put it in my 12v and 24v. Use synthetic 2 cycle if you want the best possible lubrication.

This is the first I've heard about PS causing a problem with the injection pump. I'm not doubting your source.



Have you had any kind of servicing done since you've satrted using the Pennziol 2 cycly lube to see how it has maintained your fuel system and engine?

No, it's an experiment in process. The engines (marine 2 cycle) that use this oil look good considering they run it at 50:1, much richer than the 200:1 I run in the truck.



I ran marvel mystery oil for awhile and noticed a white fluffy looking stuff (assumed to be ash) in the inside of the compustion chamber so MMO is OFF my list to use. The 2 cylce oil says it is ash-free so this should not reoccur.



I plan to run 50k or so miles and pull an injector ot two and see what they look like. I expect good results though based on how clean the two cycle marine engines look inside.



I've heard the alcohol complaint about PS from other sources as well. Alcohol is commonly used as a drying agent for fuels.



I'm just passing on info from a VERY knowledgeable and trust worthy diesel mechanic; he is actually a diesel fanatic

I have a WalMart near by and see if they carry the Pennzoil 2 cycle lube. I'll also give it a try. Definitley don't want to do any damage regarding damage to any seals in the injection pump!!!!!

FWIW I ran power service fuel additive in almost every tank since new. 4 yrs. 42k on the clock , one almost dead lift pump, same vp 44 . new self installed lift pump - all is good.



so many choices- pick you r additive and go.

stay away from adding ATF to your fuel
