My power steering box started pouring fluid today. I made it home from work but do not know if it will make it till Monday the 8th. This is when the only place in town that rebuilds these re-opens after vacation. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that rebuilds these that you would give a good recomendation for their work.

it is coming out around the bottom where the spline goes into the box through the rubber seal. i guess you had good luck with the auto zone? this box has been on the truck for about 80k miles. i am looking for one that will last a while longer than that. how long ago was it when you got your box because i called up there and they said they did not handle this style.

A little over a year ago. I don't remember the brand. I probably put about 20k miles on it.

If the seal is worn out, you might be able to replace it. See if you can get one from NAPA, pull the pitman arm off and do it on the truck.

There might be more than just the seal if the leak went from 0-100 all at once but that would be a good place to start.

check the box

Have someone wiggle the steering wheel while looking at the box. The lower bearing could have gone bad and then a new bottom seal would be useless. Check for side to side wiggle in the output shaft. The lower end is always where an oil leak will show up. Clean it off and check for the source of a leak. You do not want to throw away a couple hundred bucks because of a leaky line or blown hose.

I appreciate the advice. I will check what you said and get back with you. NAPA is ordering one but is going to take a week to get so I got some time to try to fix this one.
