2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Power Steering Fluid Leak?

Everytime I back out of the garage and cut the wheels to turn down the drive the truck leaves about a 6 ft dribble of PS fluid. I looked underneath for the source and it appears to be coming from somewhere around the PS fluid reservoir. The steering gearbox is soaked with fluid and I've been topping off the fluid level every week or so.



Truck has 112K miles. What is the most likely cause and fix?

do a search. there is a seal between the vacuum pump and steering resevoir that always fails. It is a known problem, I don't know the issue or who, but replacements are available through TDR.



If anyone know let us know, thinking of picking up a spare.

The vacuum pump seal failure is usually an engine oil leak - not PS fluid.

I would make sure you are not overfilling the PS pump. If not, then wash everything to help you try to isolate the issue. When I had a '94, the steering box developed a leak at the seal for the main shaft. The wind blew it all over the front end so identifying the leak was impossible until I washed it.

I would suspect the high pressure hose to the steering box is leaking, check by watching the hose for leaks while someone turns the wheel against the stops.
