POWER STEERING GEAR BOX

Having little problem with front end steering. I thought it was the ball joints. I jacked up the front end on both sides. On the passenger side I found the lower ball joint to move a fraction of a hair. I also noticed that the tie rod end on the passenger side was warn out, so I replaced it. While I had it jacked up I checked the power steering gear box. I noticed some play in it, how much play should there be?

There shouldn't be any, or at most a very very slight amount. Mine has about 1/4-3/8". Makes driving more of a challenge. Oh, and "They're all like that. " if you buy the typical B. S. that a dealer will try and give you.
