Take a look at TSB 19-005-03 dated August 2003. It lists the type of PS fluid that was factory fill by vehicle line. If your truck was built in any of the truck plants, it had to come with ATF+4 as that is the only PS fluid they would have in the plant. I'm not saying your wrong, but I think DC is probably certain they did not put something other than +4 in it at the assembly plant. After it left the plant who knows what happened. PM me the last eight of your vin and I will check and see if any warranty repairs were done before you purchased it.

Thanks for the offer, I bought the truck new with 8 miles on the ODO. I am pretty sure no repair were done. If you think there is still a chance let me know and I will PM you the number.

Todays update. They do not have any pumps to order, but some other dealerships have them in stock. The dealer has put out a request for a pump. He says he should have one in a week or two. However, the good news is that he is now dodging (no pun) all questions about the fluid... .

ARRRRHHHHH.

D. C. I assume reads these posts as they asked for the threads on the 07 4500/5500 be held off until March 1st !

DC didn't ask TDR directly. The DC press release had a release date of March 1 (standard PR stuff), and TDR decided to abide by the release date and bring down the thread discussing the new trucks.

Steve St. Laurent was pretty clear that DC did not contact the TDR.

As For The Pumps Being On Back Order, Im Not To Sure About That, One Of My Techs Did One Last Week. And That Was All Warranty.

Also Replaced The Box, Lines, Coolers, Hydroboost, And Master Cylinder Due To Contamination. We Had No Trouble Getting All Of That Within A Week Or So.

Just talked to my favorite dealership again. I asked them if they were going to replace the hydrobooster, liners, or any of the other components of the system, since they were all full of metal flakes. They said, "No the problem is the pump, we are sure everything else is fine. "

So, what do I need to do to document that they are not fully repairing the problem at this point so that when it fails after the warrentee is over I can force them to fix it right.

Thanks guys.

I would say talk to another dealer's service manager and have him inspect the system. Or call DC customer service and tell them you are not happy with the repair, and see what they say. Either way it is probably time to find a different dealer.

If They Assure You Every Thing Is Fine The All That They Are Going To Have On The Repair Order Is Just A Pump Replacement And Not All Of The Other Stuff. So If In Fact The Other Component Fail It Will Be The Dealers Fault But Trying To Prove That Will Be Tough. I Would Speak To The Service Manager About Having The Other Components Replaced This Time. If He Says No The Go To The General Manger He Will Have It Taken Care Of. It Sucks That Your Service Advisor Did Not Take Care Of You Like He Should Have.

This is the service contract # 1800-521-9922. I had the other number and can not find it now but I will keep looking.

Power Steering

My "03"service manual says "MOPAR ATF+4 is required in the power steering system. Substiute fluids can induce power steering system failure. "

Had my steering pump gearbox and hydrobooster all replaced within the last month. Pump went out at 24000, sent metal thru other components. All replaced under warranty no fuss no trouble getting parts.

How did they know it was power steering fluid?? Did they send it off to check or just look at the color? When they replaced my pump the oil in it was brown like PS fluid but thats because it was burn't.
