Does anyone have any pictures of the hoses with the dampers on them which are being used to fix the 2000rpm vibration?

Thanks Dean, I have a bit of a vibration in the 2000 rpm area. I am going to look tonite to see if the dampers are there. I believe I heard the '04 trucks have them from the factory.

It looks like one hose gets the damper, is that correct?

It is the hydro boost hose and the modified one has one damper.

I took mine in last week for the hose vibration, cracked alternator bracket and clutch rattle TSBs. The're gonna fix all but the hose vibration. Said they could not find anything wrong there.

took mine in last week and showed em the TSB # etc and they ordered me the hose and installed it in like 30 minutes. cured the 2000RPM vibration instantly. but they had no idea, or acted like it, about the TSB when i first asked em. TSB # 19-008-03, PN#52113926AF, TECH CONNECT OF 11-28-03

My '04 did not have the revised hose but my dealer installed it for me. However, from the photo's I've seen the 2004. 5's seem to have the revised hose from the factory.

Does anyone have a copy of this TSB you can send me so I can take it to the dealer?

TSB # 19-008-03

You can post it here, PM me with it, or I can PM a fax number to you.

Thanks

when i gave him this infor. he looked it up on the puter and confirmed it. i don't have a hard copy.

My truck had the vibration bad till it cooled off during the fall, might get a hint of it once in a while now. Went to the coughgagcoughdealer with the TSB and they want to verify the problem exists!! Went to parts and they had two of the hoses in stock and with Busisness Link discount my price is $48 and change, might just go ahead and purchase the damn thing myself and be done with it!!

I noticed a buzz in the dash at 2000-2200 rpm and my 2004 does not have the dampner on the hose. I put a zip tie around the two hoses up in front of the brake fluid reservoir and it seem to have cured it. May go back to the dealer with it if it looks like you guys are getting them to fix the 04s.

I tried the tie wrap solution myself. I made a difference but there is still some vibration. I think I will go buy the hose and put it on myself. It is not worth arguing with the service people over.

Does anyone know what the REAL difference is between the original hose and the modified hose? Is it just a piece of foam insulation molded around the hose in one spot? Do you think a piece of foam water pipe insulation taped or tie wrapped to the hose would do the same thing? All it's doing is breaking the resonance - is that right?

Thanks,

Blake

The modification is a heavy weight (cast iron?) attached to the hydro boost hose.

Dean

Thanks Dean.

If someone who buys the new hose would weigh it and the old hose, we can determine how much weight is added. Then we could hose clamp a piece of pipe cut in half or something of similar weight.

Thanks.

I am not sure, but I think the hose itself may have been redesigned as well. Pipe would not be heavy enough, I think lead flashing might be a better choice.

I cannot understand why the dealers make such a federal case out of doing this TSB work. I have had no problem getting things done from mine. There seems to be a wide interpretation of what they will or will not do and I think some of it is pure miserableness. Remind them that service sells the second vehicle.

Dean

Dean, I would have to agree. In my experience, it never occurs to the service "adviser" to think long term or maybe even consider that a customer could possibly be more informed.

To get my hose on I had to go corral the mechanic and he worked it out from there.

I don't know how many ctd's they sell in a year but so far I am the only one to have either the Clutch rattle or PS hose done. So thanks TDR for the most valuable thing going, information! Of course the other way to look at it is I probably would have gone on like most buyers thinking that these noises etc. are "normal".

Anyway, get the proper hose (fight for it if you have to) it is a surprisingly effective way to reduce the symptoms it's designed for.

If the vehicle meets the criteria of the TSB, it should be fixed by the dealership. I cannot see any reason why this is not standard practice. I can understand why a dealership would not waste time fixing something that is not happening or something, that, in the vehicle owner's mind, might happen sometime.

I had the clutch rattle and the vibration fixed when I called the TSBs to the attention of my dealers excellent service department. They were fixed in a timely manner and with a smile. I will buy my next vehicle there.
