power steering hoses

Has anybody replaced there power steering hoses? Online it shows the pressure/feed line comes with the fittings already attached while the return line appears to just be some hose. Where can i get the fittings for the return line? Is there a set that is already complete? I couldn't imagine it being that big of a deal, just wanted to make sure i wasn't making anymore work for myself by buying a hose that wasn't complete. Thank you!

A good oil resistant line will work good, with two clamps. Gates makes transmission cooler line, 3/8" that works great:

Easy job. Did mine a few months ago. Nothing really to worry about other than makde sure you dont mix up return and feed once you have both hoses off!!





Might I also suggest that you take the time to do a fluid flush. You will be amazed at what comes out.

Might want to look into installing an inline PS filter. I found one from (IIRC) Cardone that looks a lot like the old fuel filter for a gas engine.

Yeah what basically happened was i'm replacing my factory box with a Redhead and the the pressure line was seized so i jut snapped it off. The fluid came out like Waffle House 3am coffee so i'm definitely going to flush. I ordered a new return line as well but it's just a plain hose. I guess i'll just go down to the parts store to get fittings? I'll look into that filter as i'm sure it would be a nice addition. I'm looking to have the steering done by Sunday, we'll see though. Thanks again guys for the help.

I have replaced ONE steering gear box with hoses on our '97 a few years back, others have more experiences, BUT this is my . 02$ when dealing with the PS system. Get the front tires off of the ground, you'll need to go lock to lock many times, no need to almost flat spot tires. Buy one big bag of oil dry, did you hear big bag OK! Bleeding or better description burping may take a bit. Good luck.

Hey thanks Gary! Yeah i learned the hard way to always keep a BIG bag of oil dry handy with anything i do anymore:-laf The new gear box just got here the other day and i may tinker with it for a bit. My brother is out of school for summer break so he came down to stay for a bit. I've spent all my time helping him work on his Furd haha go figure. Anyhow i should have something to report by Sunday. I'm going to at least try to get the gear mounted and Borgeson shaft hooked up today so at least that's done when the hoses get here. Can I splice that filter into the return side?



Anyway i'm getting anxious, i've been going at this thing pretty solid every day after work and I think I can see the light! I've got the floor done, (sound deadening, new carpet, floor mats) seat cover should be here soon. I went through the front and rear hubs, did the KDP and dang near replaced all the belt drive items. Next on my list is all the fluids. Then on to body and paint which should about kill the last of my budget. I also need new rubber which should land me squarely in the dog house. I'm getting her ready for the tour next year Robert

Sounds like your married to my wife!! :-laf Mine finally got mad and told me,"New rule, one in, one out. " (Seems she gets mad when she has to move a couple trucks so she can mow?!?!) So I had to sell a couple to get the last two I stumbled on. I'm gonna take one apart and scatter the parts, so hopefully she won't notice it... . And I can classify it as "parts", and not really a truck.



I told mine she was lucky; a lot of guys spend their money on playing golf, girlfriends, or the gentlemen's clubs..... I just spend it on guns, trucks, and horses..... so she can shoot me, sell the guns and trucks, and ride the horses!!:-laf At lease she can sell all my stuff and have SOME money if anything happens to me. And if these older Dodges keep going up in value, she might really have something... ... ... . maybe...

This was from my install a couple of years ago. IIRC the filter goes in the return line, it is not for the high pressure lines. I found two types, one was the gas line looking design, the one I chose not to buy was an INSIDE THE LINE filter, it did not pass the smell test.



Same disclaimers as issued in old thread. System has worked just fine, got a stabilizer from Brandon at Genos'.

I just bought the return and pressure lines for my 90, first went to a hose making joint, "House of Hose" "what a JOKE they were", then I called NAPA and they had them both. The return line was $14 and some change and the pressure line was $18 and some change. Fittings and everything!!! Good luck

The pressure line isn't the problem, it is the return line and it is not available except through Vintage Mopar Parts @ 114. 00



How on Earth did you get one from NAPA????



Are you talking about the short little piece of rubber hose? yeah they have THAT, not the steel line.



What I did is to buy TWO pressure hoses (from NAPA) and cut one of the steel lines off and save that. You don't need the rubber portion. Bend the steel line a bit and use a brake flare tool to forge a bit of a bubble on the end where the rubber hose slipps over.



The factory rubber hose is a size no longer in existance on this planet. I used a common size (no idea what it was) made for power steering and it seemed to fit snug on the "new" steel line as well as the power steering pump.
