Well, I just got my vacuum pump/power steering pump leaks all fixed up this past weekend. Quite an easy job but just removing things to access the area is the time consuming thing.

Anyway, I had some questions about my engine after the fix. My service manual states that my oil pressure sending unit is right behind the PS pump, but when I got everything removed to access the assembly, it was no where to be found. After searching high and low, I believe it is actually further back than the manual states, right in front of the fuel heater. What gives with that? Is my '98 block a later model that had a different sending unit location than earlier '98s??

Also, the support bracket is kind of a dinky design from what they show in the manual as well. Only had one M8 bolt holding it to the block and was very different looking from the manual bracket. Seems like it does the job just fine, but I am just wondering about my service manual now.

Another thing I found interesting, was the drive key that drives the PS pump. There is that little notched square on the key distingushing one side of it from the other and when I pulled it apart it was facing the wrong way according to the manual as well as the "fixinrams" pump kit directions. I have never had the pump assembly off and I bought the truck with only 20K on it back in Feb. of '99. Did anyone else who tore into their assembly notice this same thing? Does the factory do something different when assembling?

One last thing, it seems my PS pump gets hot when operating and I think it is hotter than normal as the stock rubber PS fluid return lines were almost melted/welded to the lines on the pump and gear box. I am running large tires as the truck is lifted, but should I need a PS cooler to help the possible over heating of the PS pump? Or is there an aftermarket pump I can install to help with the large tires and heavier braking? Another thing on the heat of it, is when I filled the pump up to normal level it started leaking after the drive home from work yesterday but the truck wasn't even running! I figured out it was coming from the pump cap and that the fliud seemed to be excessively foaming.

Well, sorry for the long post, but I hope some of you guys can help me out with these questions. I really appreciate it in advance! :)

Thanks, Joe

Never end does it :)

I'm having my power steering /vacuum pump leak done as I type. The dealership has done this for me today. One leak down, but they found another bad one from the oil pressure sender. It is as you say quite a bit further back towards the fire wall on the driverside. Its a cheap fix. Two leaks fixxed

The rest I can't say, however, the dealership also found another bad oil leak coming from the plate under the injection pump. They couldn't have pointed that out when I had them replace my injection pump 6 weeks ago :-{} Not paying for that one again untill the oil starts to pour out!!!

Thats all I can help with.

Cool, thanks anyways Reno. Maybe someone else can offer some help with my issue. Hope your oil leaks are soon fixed, it seems that no matter how many leaks are fixed, there will always be another. :-laf
