Because more frequent diluting of the old stuff will result in newer average fluid over the 8 year span. No different than how transmissions, that use the same fluid, are serviced.

to each their own i guess. but why stop at the power steering. theres 2 differentials ,tcase and radiator as well

I think what’s more critical . I’m one that’s a lot more attentive to the drive train , then worried about my power steering fluid . Coolant when I’ve done it is a complete change . I’m certainly not going to dump half my axle fluid out , and only replace half . Plus the fact of metal particles. I wouldn’t think there is a lot of worry in power steering fluid .

Those are all on schedules too.

Power steering fluid operates hot and has a low volume, so in short it gets more abuse than those other systems you mentioned. It’s also not an easy system to drain, unlike the other things you mentioned.

I have not looked on my 15 but when helping a friend do a trans fluid exchange I slid back a spring clamp and pulled the hose I thought was a trans line and it turned out to be for the power steering. This was on a 05 or so. Bottom line it was easy to drain the PS fluid.

the differential runs 170f on the highway empty. cooling system 210f. tcase gets hot as a muther also. so the ps gets more abuse ? lol how funny.

having exchanged ps fluid on two of my vehicles ,i didnt find it difficult at all. ya youll need two floor jacks but theres nothing tricky about it.
in the real world i dont see any advantage to sucking a few ounces from the resorvoir twice a year ,over the span of say 8yrs (16 total) ,vs exchanging all the fluid once every 8yrs.
i say that with two 20yr vehicles in my driveway , ps systems still in perfect working order

What's funny is you’re seriously trying to compare coolant and gear lube to ATF in the PS system. Come on, that’s pretty apples and oranges but whatever you want to use to justify your argument.:rolleyes:

It is pretty funny how worked up you’re getting over it too. Don’t like it? Don’t do it. Simple.

I’ve exchanged PS fluid on several vehicles and it’s not difficult at all, but it’s still easier to suck the reservoir out once a year (no need to change any of my rigs oil twice a year, that’s bit excessive unless you drive 30K a year) and replace it. I’ll bet in your stated 8 year interval (it’s 6.5 years in the owners manual for these trucks) I spend less time doing an annual reservoir fluid replacement than a single drain and fill, and it has better fluid the entire time.

@AH64ID, Valid point with better fluid all the time. Reminds me about back in the day, Amsoil made an additive package to add into you oil when you replace your oil filter. It was different the just their standard oil. By sucking out and adding fresh, helps with keeping the additives to the fluid. But as it's been said, "You're truck, You're money!". Whether you want to follow the book on time and mileage, or want to swap out a little every year is the choice we have to make. Getting new fluid in every system, at or before schedule, is the most important thing to keep systems operating and on the road! Just take care of these trucks, and they;ll take care of you! :D:D

your train of thought is to keep a newer fluid average in the system. every other fluid on the vehicle degrades over time and gets hot just the same. diff oil is sheared constantly between hypoid gears. why not suck a qaurt or two out every oil change ? or pump the cooling resorvior ?
i get it . your truck, your way. ive just not seen anything in real life to suggest sucking the ps resorvior frequently would of helped me long term.
where people have problems is when they let it go until its black syrup. unfortunatly we can fix stupid

I used to run my synthetic 5/40 weight 99 24v 10 k and change out the oil . Mid way I would change the oil filter and add make up. I had no warranty to worry about. Nwew truck I have a warranty and maxcare and have to change oil every year. When the warranty’s gone on this truck I
I will go back to 10k 5 k process. Each to his own I guess
