It's not bad at all.

I've gotten to where i just suck the fluid out of the reservoir and replace it every oil change. It's basically how we service transmissions and it's not an issue.

why not exchange all the fluid and be done with it for another 8yrs or so. instead of diluting the old stuff a few ounces at a time every oil change

Because more frequent diluting of the old stuff will result in newer average fluid over the 8 year span. No different than how transmissions, that use the same fluid, are serviced.

Nothing wrong with this, It is how I do my '91, '01 and Ford. However, I didn't do anything with them for years, so a complete change was good, I also added filters on them and a cooler on my '01 and Ford.

This is how I do my new truck, change the reservoir fluid every transmission fluid change. Key is, don't ignore it for 50 or 100k, like I did on my older trucks.

Years ago I long time (forever) borrowed my wife’s turkey baster to suck some power steering fluid out of my old 99 24 v I put a hose clap on it to keep it together etc., But it was a bit messy sometimes. Now I have a big suction gun like a grease gun size . I have not tried it on the power steering yet but I’m always interested in something that works better to do this. What seems to work the best

I have used this for several years. Good quality and chemical resistant. Brake fluid, ATF etc. $29 on SCAMAZON.
