Power steering leak in New Cummins Elizabeth

C. Carpenter's new Longhorn has less than 1500 Mi and is already sprung a power steering leak, or so it seems. Could you tell me what do we do now? We noticed a small soil spot on the driveway and further investigation reveals a thin red oil along the frame and other various areas. Difficult to see the source but the color suggests it might be power steering fluid. The level in the reservoir is also very low. Very surprising on a brand new truck. He's starting to Pace the floor again...
 
Call the dealer and make an appt...... more that likely it'll take a day or week to get it in. And add some fluid to bring the level up, I think it is ATF+4 but check the OM to make sure. Things happen, but that is why you have a warranty
 
Yep it does happen. These trucks are being pumped out so fast to play catch-up with the backlog of orders I wonder if quality control is taking a slight hit. Anyhow it’s more than likely nothing major, and I’m sure the dealer will get you fixed up quickly once it’s brought in.
 
First thing I would do is buy a quart of power steering fluid and top it up so you don’t burn the pump out and no power steering. Might be a long time to get it in at the dealer. Everything is backed up a bit

I normally am not commenting any more since I am letting my membership expire. But when I see something that maybe incorrect, I will say something. Now I could be all wet but in my 2008 Diesel Supplement Book the power steering fluid is Mopar ATF+4 Automatic Transmssion Fluid. I do not think the newer trucks would have transition to run of the mill power steering fluid. Since my son's 2013 truck also use Automatic Transmission Fluid for his power stereing unit.

I would check your Diesel Supplement Book for your model of truck for the correct fluid needed.

The owner manual on my 2018 says:

We recommend you use Mopar Power Steering Fluid +4 or Mopar ATF+4 Automatic Transmission Fluid
 
I did pursuade C. Carpenter to let the dealer look at it. He sometimes makes things more complicated than necessary. Then again, I completely understand his being so protective of such a nice truck that he never dreamed of driving, much less owning, provided he finishes our build. Things can get a bit sloppy at the dealer, and when they seem so uber busy and disorganized, it dents your confidence, you know? Yes, we did add some ATF+4, as the 2022 manual specifies. However, what is the supplemental diesel manual referenced above? We did not get these with our trucks.
 
I don't think they offer those after 2020. See that they list a OM kit, 2 choices for 2500/3500. Guessing one is for gas and other for diesel. Anyone else know for sure? Prior years had a separate book for just the diesel trucks along with a standard owners manual that was included with the diesel equipped trucks.
 
Even some of the older trucks have had them integrated into the owners manual if you go download a new one from Ram.
