On the back side of my 97 steering pump there are three hoses. One I can guess is out, one is then return, what is the third?

Where I am going with this is if I am connecting this to my first gen PS pump, I have one too many lines. One of them has to go!:-laf ;)

Thoughts? Can I just plug the third line and call it a day?:-laf

Thanks!

Robert

What truck are you talking about? Until '97 the p/s pumps only had two lines on the rear, one h/p o-ring steel line and a rubber return hose. Starting in '97 there were two return hoses. If you are working on a '96 or older and have two return ports on the pump, it is not the right one, least the reservoir is not. In that case you could just plug off one.

No, you cant plug off either return. But you can put a tee in the return a couple inches from the pump and hook both returns from the steering and hydroboost to it. I have a 97 hydroboost on my 96 and that is how I did mine. It works okay. If I ever have to replace the PS pump I will get the correct pump for a 97 and redo the returns to individual ports but until then it is working fine.

This is for the late 97 motor that is now in the 93 crew cab. I do have three posrts.

What is hydroboost anyways? What makes it not cap off able?

Robert

In 97 they did away with vacum boost for the brakes and switched over to the p/s pump for brake assist. My 96 still uses the vacum pump

BRAKES!!! ERRRRRRRRRRK!

Say what now? You sayin I have no brake assist now on my 93 brake system?

Oh no!!!! Thinks just got more confusing!

Robert

The 97's still got a vacum pump to run the heat / ac doors and stuff. just look at it and make sure there is a place to hook up the brake booster

Well shucks. This isn't exactly rocket science here. Your '93 has vacuum assist for the brakes. The p/s pump off the '97 has an extra return port for the hydraboost system. PLUG ONE OF THEM AND BE HAPPY!!!!

What hsmith said. Sorry I misread your post. Since you are using the later model pump in the older truck all you have to do is plug off one of the return ports on the back of the PS pump. Doesn't matter which one you choose. Then just hook up your vac booster to the vac pump for the brakes and your good to go.

Ahhhhh! (he taken a deep breath..... Sigh... ... ... ... ) ;)

Wonderful! 1 Port plugged and I am happy. :)

Thanks guys!
