Hi Guys, just a quick question. I have noticed some leaky spots on the driveway. Coming from the power steering pump reservoir. Any comments about replacing or repairing yourself or having to go to Dodge? The truck is 03 HO 6 spd with 85000 miles and three years old, (warranty has expired)

Thanks

it might be the pressure line going into the bottom of the reservoir, mine cracked radially and about killed me when it lost all fluid, because it also powers the hydroboost brakes, i was pulling, had to slam on brakes, and it busted, it had already been leaking a little, but i would get it fixed, it is replaced by a hose that has a special weight on it to reduce the vibration on the elbow fitting, maybe mine wont crack again, it can be a scary experience...

I've had a leak in mine for the last two months. Due to having the extended warranty, I finally took it to the dealer, and they've ordered a new pump which should be in this week.

New high-pressure line has a "weight" on it

Gentlemen-

I too have experienced the same problem and yes I almost lost control due to NO brakes with a 7000 lbs load!! Here is the deal... . the 03 trucks are having vibration issues which will crack the high-pressure line under the pump. I took my truck to the dealer for repairs and noticed the new line has a "weight" on it which is suppose to help with the vibration. For those of you who have NOT replaced this line I would highly recommend that you zip-tie the line to your battery cable or something to assist with the vibration. I would also recommend this to those of you who have had your pressure line replaced. Take a look at the newer trucks and you will see what I am talking about. Good luck and hope this helps!!! my leak on the 05 was just the line. it's a simple fix, just like changing a frame mounted fuel filter with the nuts on the ends i think? but i still have the warrenty. no problems since the fix.

I had Same problem two years ago, coming through KY down the big road and went to get off at an exit to fuel, and no steering and no power brakes, I guess line had vibrated enough to crack it, since we had went from TN to Utah and on our way back. I just drove it the last 100 miles like it was. The dealer replaced the pump and line and raped me royally on it. When i asked why it failed at 48,000 miles- the response[] :confused:

I just had my p/s pump replaced at 38,000 miles. Dealer had to order it in. I wish I would have noticed the leak before the warranty wore out. :{

On top of the pump I mentioned that will soon be replaced, I already had the "new" line with the weight attached installed about 2 years ago. Just about the only problems I've had with my truck have been p/s-related. Yea, there've been a few other very small issues, but none to really speak of. My truck's definitely lived up to my expectations!
