Okay... I got the oring and seal replaced inbetween the power steering pump and vac pump. Went to drive it and no leaks:) but i must have messed something up because i have no power steering. Is there a coupler in between the pumps that i missed. I didn't see anything fall out when i took it out... but ya know. I'm pretty sure that there isn't any air in the system because i didn't spill any oil out of the PS and kept it level.

No one has any info of pictures @ the parts stores Dodge says go see cummins and Cummins says go see dodge

Does anyone know what is wrong?

Between the casting, that has the seals, and the vacuum pump there's a large round washer with a "X" slot in it. This is behind this casting in the vac. pump - is it still there??

If not you found your problem.

I'm guessing the connector is mis-indexed or is missing.

For better illustrations, go to the DC dealer and ask to peruse a FSM on thier premise. If the tech doesn't have it out of their library, I bet they'd let you have a peek.

Look at the section for the vacuum pump and or PS pump.

Good luck,

Andy

I just replaced my power steering pump. There is a "dog" on the shaft of the pump, that indexes into a slot in the vacuum pump. Getting them lined up correctly is not fun. On some power steering pumps, depending on who you buy it from, they are supplied without the "dog" coupling, I found out the hard way.

The 2000 service manual I have has no pictures of the pump assemblies, nothing more than a brief description. ("dog" is not my term. That's the word the manual uses to describe the shaft coupling. )

Hmmmmmm?

Well I remember when I took it apart looking back at the power vacuum pump and seeing an X type of cut in the back of the driver off of the vacuum pump. So there should be a washer to match that? I'll go to the dealer and bug them more. They were in the process of moving all the used viehicals from the old store to the new store so they weren't much help.
