My power steering is squeeling, but not usually at an idle. It squeels when the wheel is turned and I give it some throttle. At an idle, it is usually o. k. I can be turning, and at a certain RPM it makes the noise, then quits when the RPM is higher. I had the power steering pump replaced, but it is still doing it. Before the pump was replaced, I drained the reservoir and filled it back up with Lucas. This seems to have helped, but not fixed it. It is the same with the new pump. What's next, the steering box? Thanks in advance for any replies.

My truck has a similar affliction. Did you flush the system or just drain the reservoir and refill? When I did mine per TDR recommendations, I drained the reservoir, refilled with Valvoline Syntec, started it up and turned the wheel max both ways several times, and repeated the process until the fluid looked and smelled clean. It took a couple of quarts, but it helped immensely.

My steering is now getting stiff again (no squeal yet), my steering box is leaking pretty significantly, and it has developed the death wobble (oh goody). I wonder if bad fluid can be a sympton of a dying steering box...

Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will contribute!
