Power steering

Truck is scheduled to go to dealer monday am to get the power steering diagnosed. It is leaking like crazy. I pulled the dipstick it was a 1/4 inch low from the "add" line. The box it self is saturated with fluid. And continuing to leak although I cant tell where its coming from. Looks like the aluminum plate on top. Has any one else had, seen, or heard of this??

I just got back from having my rig towed to the dealer. All of the sudden, no steering. (I was hooking up to a trailer so I am kind of glad that it went out when it did and not 15 minutes later) Opened the Power steering fluid and it is full of metal powder in the fluid. I have never seen something like the before. Check you fluid boys, you may be next.

Mine has ha a minor drip since about 3 mos after I bought the truck in 03 and I finally found where it was coming from, the high pressure hose going from power steering pump to hydraboost unit had a hairline crack in it where the line nut bolts into the pump. I ctook it apart twice and could not see the crack but I knew I could see it was wet at line nut fitting so I replaced the line for 53. 00 and no more leak

Figures I would find it after I pass 36k mile warranty

Mine had developed a leak approximately 6 months ago. Initially, I tightened the pressure line on the bottom of the pump about 1/8 of a turn, and the leak stopped. It only took about another month for the leak to come back, but the lines were still tight. It turned out to be a leaking pump, and the dealer replaced it under the extended warranty (for $50 of course). There are several other threads here on this same subject, so I'd advise reading them too.

my last truck 03 h. o. power steering made a explosion sound under the hood while towing 34' fifer (made a noise like a 1972 225 slant six with not oil) pulled over and checked fluid levels none shown on dip, none visual, filled up at next gas station with 4 quarts, took to dealer while 15oo mile from home and told me it would be a week before they could analyze... i drove it home with no p. s. and took to my dealer... . they said the main seal blew out and and me driving it with out fluid ruined the whole thing... they replaced whole system and covered it under warranty.

Had mine replaced at 37K, along with the steering box. cost me 400 bucks (200 deductible on each). These both have TSB's - you should have them check the steering box also. Known Dodge problem.

Dealer just called, said I might have to pick truck up tommorrow as he has to replace my power steering pump

mother inlaws 04. 5 did the same thing. took three trips to the dealer before they finaly installed a new pump to fix the issue.

My PS pump had a slow leak, I finally managed to take it in.



Pros: Dealer replaced the pump and high pressure line all for zip under 36k warranty.



Cons: Took em' a week to get the part in. When I got it back, it looked like the tech who topped it off had Parkensons. There was fluid all over!!

When you get the pump replaced you need to also get the hydrobooster replaced. Make sure the lines get flushed well also. Got my pump and gearbox replaced at 23k under warranty. Tech said I needed to change the hydrobooster also because of the metal shavings from the pump but it was going to be the next day so I said no I got to have my truck. Two days later no power brakes no steering when parked. Got hb replaced all is well.

What are the TSB #'s? I've got 60,000 mi. and mine's covered in oil.

I had to laugh just got mine back today, got a mile down the road turned around and took it right back. Turn wheel all the way to the right and back up and it ground and bucked, like it was binding. Driving the wheel was cocked th the right about 25 degrees. Let go of the steering wheel and the truck would try and park itself in the ditch. Lifted the hood when I got back to dealer and there was fluid EVERYWHERE. All over front axle, antisway bar & power steering pump. Couldnt beleive they gave it back to me like that!!!!! I called them back the Service Manager said he had mechanic clean all the fluid spills up adjust the steering to be straight and they scheduled it for a front end alignment tomorrow morning. Well see when I get it back. If it still grinds and bucks should I take it right back in or will they start leaving hundred foot blackmarks out back while Im not there. I must say the Service Manager has been very kind and helpful but that mechanic couldnt find his butt with both hands. Well wish me luck..... Like others here this is 5-STAR service!!!! As I always say though Id rather have a broken Dodge than a working Ford :-laf

My p/s pump has been leaking slightly for a little while. I finally looked at it pretty good expecting to see a loose line but instead found that the leak is apparently coming from between the reservoir and the actual pump. I am not familar with Dodge's, but was able to locate 2 screws where they meet. Because of where the screws are located, i was not sure how they could seal it back up when tighted, but i gave it a try. Well, the slight drip became a much bigger drip causing me to loosen the screws back up and sure enough the drip slowed back down.



It is still dripping at times. It leaks a lot more when it is cold and sometimes not at all when it is warmer. For this reason i am still assuming there is some type of seal between the two that gets "harder" when it gets cold and then when the metals or rubber warms up seals back up. This is my first Dodge to work on so I am not familar with how their systems are set up.



I read a lot of the other posts on this issue and appears that many of the pumps let go and died. I do not think this case with mine, yet (unless I fail to check it from time to time and run it dry).

200,000 miles PS started leaking. I have replaced PS pump, hp line and return line; still leaking. Advance wants $300 for the hydroboost (Cardone), Parts Geek has it for $217 plus core, but the part number is different. Any other after markets recommended besides Vasco?
