The Cummins Garbage Truck

PowerJOKE...really I swear

Hey guys, I have a friend that just bought a '94 3/4 ton ford with a 7. 3. I thought he'd get a dodge, but I found out his brother is a logger and has a newer power stroke with 200,000 mi. By the way my friends truck has 137,000 mi.

Then I was at the parts place the other day, and the counter man said he'd sold over 100 7. 3's and not one cummins. Does that sound right? I know I'm happy with my cummins.

Does anyone know how many miles that a 7. 3 starts giving trouble and what kind of trouble?

I guess as long as they make at least two brands of something, the wars will always go on. Thanks for any past experiences info, or any advice. Kirk

'95 dually 5 spd. 260,000 mi. cam plate, inj. pump turned up

I talked with a logger at the fuel pump in Eureka a few months ago. He had used Fords for a long time but gave up on the PSD models. He had knocked the front ends out from under two of them. Both 4X4s. So far his Dodge is holding up a lot better. It has more miles on it than the Fords had when he broke them. He is logging somewhere in central Oregon. I don't remember for sure where he said. He also said that he would have preferred a Chevy, but the closest dealer was much too far away. He was pleased with his Dodge and a little surprised at how well it was holding up. It was filthy with quite a few dents.

94 wasn't that bad

I notice he has a 94. They are last year of the indirect injection 7. 3's They were a pretty good motor. The 95 was the first year of the direct injection. I had one and had nothing but problems with it. I think it had a lot of issues that were brought on by the previous owner. To make a long story short, the best thing I ever did was roll the truck and total it. If he's lucky he might get some good miles out of it. My 95 had problems after about 60,000 miles. A buddy of mine had 130,000 miles on his 2001 with the only problem being the brakes. He almost needed to carry an extra set of rotors and pad. :D

I have seen 94 model Fords that have the Power Stroke motor. The emblem on the truck said Turbo diesel but the plastic on the top of the motor said Direct injection. The early 94s were a turbo Charged 7. 3. The later 94s are power strokes.

Your right, the 94 was the first year for the PS, however I didn't think they were direct injection. I have check though and all PS's are direct injection

We have one ford it has 280,000 still running good but it also say's that it is direct injected, i tend to agree before 95 was a good engine, Just for the record A freind has a 96 Dodge CTD with over 500,000 mile's same turbo and has had no major eng failure, this truck hardley ever untrack's with out a goose pulling 20,000.
