Went with a friend last night to look at new 2001 Powerstrokes. F250 Crew Cab 4WD short bed loaded . I got to drive this truck after my friend, what a slug, my 2001 quad will eat this thing up and mine is bone stock with 5000 miles. I've talked to alot of people about these Fords, and all have said how fast they are,not this one, has anyone else had a similar experience or is this one just a dog?Anyway I think he's leaning toward a Dodge, Smart guy

My neighbor has (oops, HAD) one of the problem child 3500s... 99 4x4, that was gutless with no mpg. I was sposed to post a question or two for him regarding suggestions. Credit where credit is due, he can make a command decision... . I asked him today what we were gonna do about his truck, he said "It's HISTORY". He wasn't gonna screw around with dealers, Cummins, arbitration, etc etc, he dumped it yesterday and bought the Powerstroke.

I had told him that it appeared the 2001 and newer rigs with the HO seemed to have zero complaints on this website as far as power goes (I can't recall EVER seeing any... did I miss something?), but he said he'd had it.

Each to their own... just wish DC would be upfront and address some of the more common issues.

I had the same feeling, I test drove a 2000 psd and it was a total dog, but so was my dodge with 12 miles on it when I picked it up, mine also stalled 4 times, twice at the dealers lot and twice at the service station across the street, with 14k on it now it hasn't stalled since and has much more power. I think both engines are very tight and need some breaking in before you will really know how much power it has.

Heard a terrible noise between my neighbor's house and ours, Saturday. I honestly thought some one was driving a thrashing machine down our road. It was a new power choke. Since then I pay close attention to them, and guess what. Fort must think painful noise is attractive. Like having to use a ladder to enter your cab!
Gimme Dodge, or gimme nothing!

My father-in-laws powerstroke seems gutless empty, but I have to admit,it's got good power with a load

Have been test driving different vehicles. Went over to the dark side and drove a F350 4WD long bed automatic, diesel of course. Did not seem to impress me. Seemed slow and sluggush. Then, I took a 1 ton Dodge, auto, out for a ride. A world of difference. More power that you can shake a stick at. Soon to place my order for a cummins.

Ford has upped the ante for 2001, trying to get back at both the ETH and the Duramax. The 2001 Powerstroke ratings in the F-series are:

275 hp/520 lb-ft with the ZF 6-speed manual
250 hp/500 lb-ft with the 4R100 automatic

I just did a little quick math: if the current 260/550 Cummins ISB is punched out to the Dodge-rating's 3500 rpm, and assuming a consistent torque drop to that point, it could easily have a rating of 305/550. THAT would be nice...

I too have looked at the Competition, And was not Impressed with the Power of the Stroke! Very Sluggish. And the (auto) Truck I Drove had a Low speed Driveline Vibration, Very Quiet though. But if Dodge Could Just get the Power of the Cumminsto the Ground from the Factory, We (us Rammers) could not be beat. But I think Bill Kondolay has the Solution for that problem! #ad

When I was a kid I bought BB's in those cardboard rolls and put them into an empty steel Band-Aid can. When you shook it, it gave out the same noise as the new PowerStrokes do at idle. #ad

His New Torque Convertor and Valve Body.
I got 28HP more to the ground By adding His Valve Body.
Next I will add His TC!.
