Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) power surge

My brother has been complaining that his truck 98. 5 24v 5spd is having a power surging problem. he first noticed it while driving down the road. well last night i got the old 84 1ton plow truck stuck and called him to give me a pull. after he got me pulled out we were standing there noone in truck and it reved right up then back down . i was like what the heck was that? he said it does it alot. any idea's?

My 99 did some similar things a while ago it would feel like a dead pedal and sometimes be idling and just shut off. Gave me a crank sensor code not sure of the number, but it's located behind the starter. Don't know if you can check for code. Hope this helps.

My 2000 was doing this and it was a defective Edge EZ that was the culprit. Sent it in for repair and now all is well.

thanks he does have an EDGE EZ and was wondering if that may be the cause. he will check into it.
