hey i want to pull my truck this weekend. was wondering if there would be a way to get a few quick hp before i go. i don't think i could get a new fuel plate before then. could i move mine? if yes how?

also what if i pulled the air filter just for the pull?

Hey Ben,
You say don't take off the air filter, why?? Because of the dirt/dust?
What if drag racing? Is there any gain? I'm sure plenty to lose... . :D

Get a BHAF too. I don't know the part numbers but their posted all over the place here. Its simple, but don't forget make the heat shield too. You'll need a piece of 4" exhaust pipe about 3 or 4" long.

grind a 0 plate full forward. slide up the AFC, dont take off the air filter... "wildmanben"quote!

is the 0 plate what's factory? is there a link on this mod?

i'm going to put a 8 plate on with a 3gsk and 4" exhaust soon.

oop's added the wrong quote (firsttimer on that one HEHEHE!)

a 0 plate is a stock plate ground flat. The most agressive fueling plate. Dirt and dust will wear your engine down pretty fast. I would get an Amsoil Cone filter on there over a BHAF. About $10 more and will flow about 10 times more. Cleanable also. A lot cheaper than rebuilding an engine that got full of dust.

last night i ground my plate that people say looks like a #10 plate and set it in the middle with noticable gain.

this evening i took it back apart and slid it forward to front of engine, i also slid the afc full forward, adjusted star wheel all the way toward engine then back a couple clicks. i also switched those funky washers around that are on the plunger. i don't have an elbow yet, but i really didn't want to raise boost till i get my gages. i'm not sure what the smoke looks like yet as it was dark, will see in the morning. i'm going to make a sled pull tomarrow unless you guy's think i may blow it up without having gages, but then again what good they going to do pulling as i'm a drag racer and don't lift till the finish line. LOL

I also believe i will be puting in a #8 or #6 plate in in the future, i'll have more questions on that when the time comes though.

I would still yank that vacuum line off the turbo because otherwise your gonna be overfueling rediculously when the stock wastegate is only set for somthing like 22 pounds.

well i'm back from pull. they had 2 classes, 6500 &8500. i was at exatly 6500, some guys were stinkin cause i was the only diesel. i took a 4th. the 3 that beat me was a 460 powered ferdbronco,98or so gas dodge, and i think a gas ford 77'sh which was not factory. man did i blow alot of smoke at first which was cool. didn't seem like I ever got the rpm's up much. anyway i'm happy with my first pull and will be adding more power soon. and thanks for all the help tdr members!

p. s (vacuum line off turbo) I know i'm new to the power building, but i didn't know there was such a thing, except for the line from the intake to the afc.

Hey Good job! Sledpulling is a lot of fun, just gets pretty costly... How did you launch it? You should adavnce your timing to 16* too... That will help a lot.

because i'm inecperienced at this and i do use and auto, i left it in drive. was amased on how much it took to get going but once going i just floored it. smoked like heck for the first 50 ft then smoke calmed down. i also pulled in high range which seemed to work good. i saw a guy try low range with a stick in the 8500 class but he could never get the wheel speed up. just curious what gear should a stick guy be in? i think i could have done better had i shifted manually.

I would leave it in low range and turn the o/d off. Spool the turbo up a bit and then let it fly! As for a manual, I run 4th low range.
