These questions have probably been asked many times before(I missed them). As I just bought a new 5er(over my rated GVWR). I am now comtemplating a few upgrades. First I will chip the engine it to approx. 60hp(rear wheels), and will change the injectors to 80hp, and will upgrade the autotransmission and torque converter. Lastly with this package I guess gauges are now needed. Have I covered the basics? Should the lift pump be all part of this upgrade, or what have I missed.

A fuel pressure guage is required, and that will tell you if a aftermarket fuel pump is needed.

1-Smarty

2-Formula 1 MACH 1. 6's

3-full guages EGT / BOOST / FUEL PRESSURE / TRANSMISSION TEMP

4-transmission upgrade to exceed power level... . more power will come in the future:D

Welcome rtravis26, your first upgrade will be to list an accurate sig so we can best help you. :) Then the fun begins! the '99 has an HX35 so boost #s over 35 are not recommended. Diesels make power by compression detonating a fuel charge. so more fuel= more power, and more HEAT. that heat is controlled by moving air through the engine in volume. so... you want to add 140hp to your fueling? you'll need a good lift pump(not stock) guages(EGT/BOOST/TRANS/FUEL PRESS. ) are mandatory. then upgrade your intake/filter to flow as much as you can, then the same with exhaust an e-brake that fits (bigger turbo?) your future plans can really save your brakes and your butt!:-laf the plan is the key to success, know what you're going to do, research, then act. A trans upgrade is a given with the auto. the stock cooler is not only a joke but it causes failures, not funny! keep the intercooler/radiator clean often. Stock turbo will be insufficiant to cool 400hp. The Cummins can do 800 hp as a daily driver how much power you need will dictate your set up. Dont fool yourself, its not cheap so do it right the first time and you'll enjoy your rig for a long time to come!;)
