I am pretty new to the TDR however not new to Dodge. I have a friend who wants his 94 to perform like my 99. He has a 94 3500 2wd. it is a 5spd. He would like it to have some real guts to it. It only has 60,000mi on it. I know what to do on 24v but where should he start on a 12v. He says that his truck will only go to 2500 rpm's. Would this be correct? No power above 2,000rpms. What do you guys suggest? Looks like I will be doing the work so I hope its just a basic plug in. Thanks!!

No easy plug ins on the 12 valve. There are several ways to go though, most of them quite easy. The way I'd go in order is-bigger injectors,TST plate, bigger exhaust. Losing the cat& muffler as well as a K&N or Amsoil air filter is a cheap place to start, your buddy will feel the difference.

Yea! what he said! #ad

Do a search on 215 injectors and you'll get more info than you can shake a stick at.

groundpounder:

I agree with what "illflem" and "Larry
B" already told you. I think your friend
can save a few dollars if he goes with the TST cam plate first. As to your question
about the the RPM'S, most of the stock
12 valve trucks (including mine) are/was
governed at about 2500 RPM'S. Some of the
other members have said their trucks would
rev higher (96 5 speeds) but mine never
did. You also said your friends truck
had "no power above 2000 RPM. " Even though
the "governed speed" is stated to be 2500
the P7100 is cutting fuel off to the engine
before that point.

If your friend does go to the TST cam plate
I highly recommend the 370 Diamond B inj's,
governor spring kit and AFC spring kit
along with that. Those items REALLY woke
my truck up!

Good luck on your "BOMBING" Project.
Let us know how your friend likes
the modifications.

GPer, with your friend having a 12v, he can make it run better than an overvalved engine! #ad
Since it is a '94 and those injectors are small, he really should start out with injectors. That pump is sure to suffer with just turning up the fuel. It would also be worth his time for fuel increases to talk to Piers about a pump. The '94 pump takes some work (upgraded cam, etc... ) to get it set up very high and it may be more cost effective to just buy one of BDs pump. This depends on how much power he wants. But please recommend injectors first. SOTGL #ad

What injectors do you recomend? Sounds like he will also want the TST kit as well. I have done injectors in my 24v but not in a 12v. Again thanks for all the excellent advice. The funny thing is this guy is in his upper 60's and he still feels the need for speed!!

I have had my 96 with A/T for only 3 weeks and am wondering if this "where to start for power" advise applies to mine also, including the order of upgrades to be made.
Iam interested in improving my fuel economy from the current 16 mpg along with increasing the power.

Hey stackd-n-jackd,What about a 1997 pump? Will I have problems with that, because i'm getting ready to install a #6 plate but never heard about the pump not being able to handle it.

I asked this same question on 10-18 and got TST plate from everyone that answered. Check under MORE POWER and good luck. I am leaning to overvalved h\o 6 speed.

Go with the TST plate first-either a 230 or 250 hp,either one will be enough to run with your 24 valve. If you want more power then buy injectors/and governor kit.

jkh, a `97 manual has the 215 injectors, they should be fine. I visit a pump shop three times a week on average and they have shown me multiple pumps that have just puked out because of the fuel flow imbalance. The trucks that are running the smaller injectors and are increasing the fuel are the ones that they see the most. Two things... I am not a pump tech, I am just telling you what I have learned, and seen. Second, this of course doesn't happen to every pump. From what I am told, the 215s are well adapt to handle an increae in the fuel load. So with this in mind it is safe to say that injectors are the first thing in fuel mods IMO.

I stopped by the old timers place last night as he wanted to take a ride in my monster. I had a pretty good launch in front of his house. The last thing I remember him saying was "holy lord". I thought the old guy was going to code out on me. So I guess this is the kind of power he is looking for. I will give the truck more air, TST kit with injectors. How does this sound for now?

Thanks stack'd & jack'd,that eases my mind. I fogot to say mine is an automatic and Cal. e. g. r. motor but there probably still the same injectors(215) don't you think so?Thanks again.
