My passenger window wouldn't go up and down, except a little bit. It is rust on the mechanism. I have the door disassembled, and am trying to get the mechanism and motor out. I con't seem to get the window disconnected from the motor and mechanism.

I have put penetrating oil on stuff, and worked it some. I can now get the window to go up and down with help, but I want to remove the mechanism to get it all up to par, and greased and working well. Motor seems to be fine.

Anybody?

Thanks,

Nate

OK I finally got it!

Take screw out of top front of door. Loosen wind-wing assy. Take window out of track. Remove top window seal, to allow wind-wing assy to rotate top back, and remove window from channel. Place rag in bottom of door, for window to land on. Let window fall to bottom of door. Take out seals at top of window sill. Pull out completely the wind-wing assy.

Take out window. Now the whole motor, and gear assy come out.

It has some rust and corosion, and that is what is wrong.

I'm working it now.

Thanks for trying. I don't have a manual. Any recomends for manuals?

Thx

Nate

Shop Book, I found one at Faxon auto literature 1-800458-2734 a bit pricy, shop around, two other places 1-800-544-3312 or 1-800 890-4038. I have bought 3 for my different year trucks all diferent places and prices, as low as $ 55 and hi was $90. If you call and one place does not have your book ask if they might know could have it . and they are year specific good luck on your search.

Check eBay - I picked up a factory service manual there for much less than a new one. They pop up every so often. You can also find them on CD (.pdf files) - the format is different but the info is the same.

Be REALLY careful if you are going to pull the motor off the regulator. I understand the spring can really hurt you. Make sure you consult a manual on the proper procedure, which I believe involves clamping it in a vice first.

Personal experience, Andy? Just kidding.

Mom's pickup had the same 2 inch span of movement in her power window on the passenger side. I took it all apart, though leaving stuff inside the door. Turned out the window glass had slipped 3/4 inch on the metal bracket holding it, and it was binding. I moved the glass in its super- glued/ siliconed pad, and all is now well. Just have to get the driver's side going, now... ...

Looks like I may have a similar problem. Rust buildup. Over a period of a month it first started needing assistance going down, then assistance going up. Finally it froze.

Figured the motor went out because there was no sound of the motor attempting to do anything but after taking off the door covering I thought I'd lube as many parts as I could because of the apparent rust buildup on certain joints. After a few ups and downs the window moved a lot better and returned to needing a bit of assistance going down then up. Better than frozen. :-laf

Not looking forward to taking apart the mechanism to do the job right. Noticed that there was a lot of rust and a bad creaking noise coming from the balancer spring also. Hopefully the sound will go away with use and a followup lube?

I also just tore into the passenger side of the 90 last weekend. Turned out to be the same thing. Rust and not the motor.

I also noticed on mine that the wheels on the end of the regulator no longer turn, and that is not helping the problem! Anyone else have that too or just rust collection?

When I tore into the 92 for paint, the vent wings were a real #@$%! to get out. After they were removed working inside the door at the motors and lift mechanism was not too bad. The plastic wheels that ride in the lift channels were frozen too. I applied a bunch of WD40 and worked them by hand to free them up. After everything was turning I applied a liberal coating of white lithium grease on everything I could reach. The stuff I could not reach got a good spray of CRC lubricant. New run channels and window gaskets at the opening on the top of the door helped too.

I havent gotten around to it, but I think I am going to get new regulators and window motors when the time comes. I have tried the lube a time of four, and it works for a while, but dust and moisture collect in the tracks, and you're back at it in a while. Mom's driver's window got so it wouldnt move much, and she had a new motor installed when it was in for other body work (I got rear ended by a Neon doing 60 while I was sitting still), and it now moves faster than my g/f's 04 Dakota window ever has.

Where are you getting new regulators?? Last I heard they were no longer available.

Robert

I replaced the pass regulator recently from the parts truck. I too had to remove the screw from the front of the wing window assy and the bolts inside the door on same. Moving that front channel allowed me to get glass off regulator. A bit of a pain, but not too bad. Andy is right. If you take those 3 bolts off that hold the motor hold the assy clamped in a vice or just use vicegrips so it can't fly apart. It is not that stout if you are ready for it, but I would hate to be surprised with my finger in the wrong spot.

BSchwarzli- My girlfriend is getting them through her shop. Aftermarket, no doubt, but they have had no problems from this particular company. There are a lot of problems they didnt have til my 1stGen graced their shop floor, though :-laf
