Power window, moody...

My left power window has decided to not work intermittently I got it to work by pushing the power door lock and or window buttons. However, when that did not work I just re-slammed the door, when that did not work I just pounded on the inside, (where the latch is) of the door. That worked. It seems to only get stuck when it's all the way down. Help TDR:-laf

I know folks got answers, you have never let me down:-{}



Side Bar//: Injector pump being rebuilt (as I write) by "Diesel Injection Service" San Bernardino. OMG pricy= $1K, and change. I saw the pump today in a box, all in pieces. A few parts being replaced. They will make 'er good

I had a similar intermittent problem with my 92. I removed the door panel for inspection and found the plug on the back of the switch had a broken retainer and had pulled partially away from the switch. I pulled it completely off, cleaned the contacts and reinstalled it and it has been working fine since. While you are in there might be a good idea to inspect, clean and lube any /all interior mechanisms. I didn't, and had to go back in later for a sticky door lock. Also, inspect the wire loom between the door and body.

Few things:

Wire between door and body. They like to crack.

Contacts in the switch on the door get a buildup. Pull apart and clean with light sandpaper.

Next, listen to motor. Is it loading when it moves? Could be a regulator or motor starting to seize.

Start with the simple things first - always check for ground. I had same issue on the passenger side, was sure it was the motor - even pulled a motor and arm from a donor truck before I began to work on mine. Once I pulled the motor, I bench checked it - jumper wires from a battery to the motor - worked. turned out it was simply not properly grounded - the bolts were not tight (noticed it when I was pulling it, but at the time did not think anything of it).

My mothers Concorde was like your truck, beat on the door and it worked, sometimes. I pulled it apart and found the brushes were gone in the motor. I cleaned it and it worked for a few more months, then I had to replace it.

And don't get all moody because the window doesn't work... ... ... ...

Window motor bolts?

Clayboy, where are the window motor bolts located that may be the ground issue? I did get into the door, checked the plug-in, cleaned everything up, used light electric silicone on the plug. All was well until it rained here in So. Cal today. Left window got stuck down again. Went up after I pounded on the the bottom of the door#@$%! Seems to only stick if it goes all the way down. :-{} Okay, I won't put it all the way down:-laf

Mine doesn't stick, but it is significantly slower in the very bottom portion of the travel. You might have a track issue.
I would try lubing all of the rollers. If that doesn't fix it, I would remove the regulator and see if any of the wheels are bent or cracked, and that the tracks are all straight

My 93 does the same thing. I don't go all the way down with it. If it doesnt want to power up I grab top of window and lift up on it while holding the switch and she flys closed. I've been dealing with other issues lately and havent got around to chasing this problem down. Let us know what you find.

Let me make a suggestion. It's sharp in there. Watch your fingers. And with the giant pita it is to work on it, if you are in there spend the $60 and get a new pw motor. They are reman from Dorman. Available from Genos.

I did the rebuild 3x in and out in and out. Finally said enough. As mentioned above you only get a few months out of them. If you plan to keep the truck for a while do it right.

Yeah, my power windows get finicky sometimes too. I find this especially true after the door has been slammed. (the switch and plug loosen up) A quick 'Fonzy' to the switch makes it right again. Works like a champ. Uh, for those who didn't watch Happy Days, that means punch the switch.

Window slow or stoppedn

I cleaned the male prongs of the window switch plug. Did that after a lot of trouble shooting. It worked. The plug can be removed without taking the door panel off. Just two retainers on the switch.

Previously opened up door, separated the plugs, cleaned-up, put a very small amount of electric silicon on connections, checked wire for cracks, cuts, and insulation. Put 'er back together, worked great for a couple of days, then stopped. One good Fonzerralli punch, window works:-laf For now, Fonzie power
