My driver's side power window motor quit working several months ago, now that the warmer weather is here, I decieded to replace it. I had the drive motor out last year to replace the clutch, I should have replaced the entire thing then, but I guess I was just too cheap to spring for the extra $100. 00. This time, I removed the motor the easy way. Rather than removing the entire window regulator, and mechanism to get access to the drive motor mount bolts, I cut three 9/16" Dia. access holes on the inner door skin. Now I can slip a 3/8" socket through the access holes to access the mount bolts to the drive motor. Once the door panel is reinstalled, you won't see the access holes.

Does that allow the motor/clutch assembly to be removed as a unit? Does the motor have easily accessible/replaceable brushes? I gotta work on mine for the passenger's side - I think it was you who gave me some other helpful info on the process...

Gary,
The motor and clutch comes out as an assembly. The brushes are pretty easy to replace if you can solder and if you can find some place to buy them. I pulled my motor apart today and found the brushes, brush holders, commutator, and bearings to be toast. I cheaped it last year and did just a clutch replacement, but I found out the hard way when that goes out, the rest of it is not not far behind it. I found Autozone carries new (not remanufactured) drive motor and clutch assemblys for around $100. 00 with a lifetime warranty - not bad when I consider I paid over $30. 00 last year for just the clutch from Manny, Moe and Jack.

WELL, drilled the holes in the inner panel, removed the motor/clutch assembly, disassembled the motor, and it was half full of water!

Amazingly, no real damage, cleaned everything up carefully, lots of WD-40 and cotton swabs, greased/oiled all shafts/bushings (clutch was fine!) reassembled the works - works like a CHARM!

Jack, without your EXTREMELY helpful advice, it would have been MUCH harder - I appreciate you help, and this board for making it available! #ad
