My first post! Have been reading for a couple of years, now a member. There is so much great info!

My 94 has window problems. Windows will roll down fine, and will roll up if take the switch out and fiddle with it long enough. One would assume it is the switch, and if so will switches from a half ton work. Thanks in advance for your replies.

CAN'T OFFER ANY SOLUTIONS BUT I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH, ON MY 1999 I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROL ON THE DRIVER SIDE (ONLY) AS WELL AS THE SPEAKER SOMETIMES IT WORKS OTHER TIMES NOT AND ALSO THE POWER SIDE VIEW MIRROR IT WILL NOT TILT UP-WARDS. THE OTHER DAY WHILE I WAS UNDER THE TRUCK ON THE DRIVER SIDE DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE DOOR HINGES THERE IS A ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR FOR THOSE WIRES I WONDER IF WATER AND DEBRIS GETS INTO IT ? ITS ONLY ABOUT EIGHTEEN INCHES FROM THE ROAD , THATS ONLY MY $. 02:confused:

Ahh, yes, the window switch fun. My '94 is an early one with a few miles on it and this is another problem I've found that can be fun to resolve and will happen to all of the second gen trucks eventually.

The switches need to be replaced. They get a little corroded and work intermittantly. The really fun part is that you can disassembly them and clean them and they will work - for a little while. And the other element to add to the entertinment is that the driver side switch can cause the passenger side window to stop working completely.

It took a couple years and a bunch of bonding time with the truck to determine the precise cause(s). New switches are cheap, replace them one at a time and mark them to keep track of which ones you've done. My last one bit the dust early this year.

If you really wanted to update, you could buy the newer style (with the lights in the switches) but it will require some customization to get it all working and they are probably more expensive.

switch removal

My switch has dropped down into the recess. It still works but I have to push it back up. What is the procedure to get under it. Do I have to get a tool to remove the dopor handle and pop off the whole door liner? Thanks Dave

Extreme is right, they just stop working. The contacts are brass in the switch, and they still give up after awhile. Usually the passenger side stops working from the drivers side. You don't need to take the whole door panel off, the bezel around the switches pops out, the switch with it. Dave there are two spring clips that hold the switch in the bezel, they have either fell down inside the door, or you need to slightly bend out the spring part of the clip to hold it firmly in the bezel.

Rattle on!!!!!

P. S. , Boyd welcome to club!!! You will find the member only sections very valuable. And yes a 1/2 ton switch '97 and older will work.

Matt

To remove them I remove the plastic insert in the door pull (2 phillips screws). Then you can push on the tab that retains the bezel in the door panel.

Pommerening Dodge near here gives a discount, I thought they were right around that price. They take credit cards and will UPS them to you. Their number is 920-236-3111, be sure and mention the TDR rate to get the discount.

Hey Boyd, we're having the same problem on my son's 94, I need to swing by Freedom Dodge and pick up a couple of switches for his truck. Wanna come by the shop and have a switch changing party? :D

Thanks for the replies. I figured that was it, but just checking. I will check on E-bay. Might have to swing by the shop one of these days and check it out.
