power windows and AC quit...?

Ok, what the ? I just got in the old Goat, rolled the driver's window down, backed up 30 or so feet and stopped, went to roll the right one down..... nothing, then I tried to roll the left one up... . nothing... . then I tried my AC, nothing, and no blower motor working either. Everything else is ok, i checked all the fuses, all good.



Any ideas where else I should look ? #@$%!



got a 12 hour delivery to do on Sat... . gonna need windows and air... .

There's a pile of fusable links on the drivers side fender well under the hood. I believe that one is orange. You can not usally see them failed. Just gently grab them individually and pull them apart. If they don't pull, they aren't failed, if it pulls apart easily, then the fusable link failed. The link looks like regular wire, but its fusable.



I too have had this fail, usually with the windows up, no a/c on a hot day. If memory serves me, that fusable link feeds two circuits. I went back to dodge, and bought 2 fusable links, soldered them in, and split the two circuits on their own fusable links. I could find no problem, or reason for the link to fail. For quite a while, I just used crimp on spade connectors, with a few spare links in the truck, so if one failed, I could swap it and at least move the windows quickly. It worked for quite some time, then I made the more permanent fix with the two links.



FWIW, a 30 amp fuse in line will not support the a/c, window circuit. I tried.

my neighbor told me to check the key switch and the fusible links... I'll check the links... . are they just a piece of wire ? Is it a piece that my Dodge dealer would stock ?



driving 10 miles to and from my shop with the window down is ok tonite, but at 6 am, at 32 degrees, it's a little chilly... . break out the toque...

question about the link

Hey Mike... . you were spot on, it was the orange link that was burnt... thanks a bunch for the tip.



Here's my dilemma, I had only a tiny piece of wire left sticking out of the black junction on the battery side of the links, where it goes from all of the links into 2 big wires, can I run the link to someplace else ? Can it go to positive battery power or will I be avoiding a relay ? I don't think that little piece is gonna last, and I'll be stuck again. Or do I cut open that black junction and do all the wires seperate ?



All i had at home was some heavy ground wire and butt connectors, so they had to do the job for today, but I will source out some links today... . was alot warmer ride to work today... . thanks again.

If you happen to have a FSM(factory service manual) or even a Chliton's manual, it will show you how to replace a fusable link. What you do is go back past the black junction, and with a knife, strip the wire clean, then solder to that, ditto on the other end. Then wrap it with electrical tape. This is all off of memory, but I know the FSM shows how to do it.



Just try and split off the two circuits, to the rear of the original fusable link, and install two fusable links, one to each circuit. This should lighten the load on the fusable link.



Yes, the Dodge dealer should have those fusable links on hand, just tell them what color you need, and get some spares.

a good parts house should have fusable link wire as well. It is sized by color and you can buy it by the foot.
