Hi Guys,

I'm sure this has been hashed out several times before and apoligize if it has been beaten to death. But, I need to get both windows fixed on my truck and don't want to miss diagnose this and buy un-neccessary parts.

Both windows appear to be slipping while going up and down. Motor appears to be turning fine in both sides by listening. Sometimes the drivers side actually works fine.

www.carparts.com has a kit ""Window Lift Motor Gear Kit, Sm. Pinion 42-41/42/43/44/45/46/404/405/408/409" and ""Window Lift Motor Gear Kit, Lrg. Pinion 42-402/403/406/407/422/423/436/437/438/439/440/441

I have no idea if this will fix the problem or which kit I'd need if this is the fix. Can someone who has had similar problem shed some light for me please? Thanks in Advance!

BTW: Truck is a '91 D-250 Longbed. Not sure if it's reg. '91 or "91 1/2.

Power Windows

While I have never had to repair the power windows on a first Gen as of yet, the usual problem encountered with most power window motors, is the large plastic pinion gear inside wears out and starts skipping teeth. As you have stated the motor does work, usauly the window goes down and has problems getting back up, but will close with some help, at least for a few times, before giving up entirely.

What I have done in the past is to remove the window regulator/motor assembly and prop the window closed with a stick from inside the door. This will give you some time to work on the motor.

Can't tell you which pinion that our trucks use,the drawing in the service manual shows the outside small pinion having 9 teeth.

If you need information how to take the window regulator apart, send me an email.

Hope this helps
