I currently have a PM2 and want to upgrade. Should I go with the PM3 and then injectors, or go the injectors route first. My goal is to get this truck running 12 sec. 1/4 miles

Tough Question!

My two cents is Mox-Nix on which to do first. I had PM2 on for 1 year when I decided to upgrade to PM3 adjustable. I had already bought RV 275s and put them on while PM2 was at TST for upgrade. Ran with just the RV injectors for a week and they felt good. PM3 makes it run real good.

I run like a big dawg with this combo, but I really set it up to tow my 15K lb 5th wheel. Does both real good. Dyno'd 315 rear wheel HP and 774 ft lb of TQ.

For drag racing, you may want even bigger injectors. Lots of folks on the TDR could give advice on that.

Take care, Wiredawg

E7Mack96,

To achieve 12's your gonna need a ton of power, I would say at least 600hp maybe 650hp. I know that with an automatic and 500hp with a 4x4 I ran 13. 78 with slicks. With a stick I would probably be lucky to see a 14. 50. I would say that you will need bigger than a PM3. And huge injectors. Best of luck.

Get a clutch. I have a Joe Donnelly one and love it! I might be wrong but I don't think he makes one for your truck but there are a few folks that do. I had a PM2 then PM2 (RevB) and now a PM3 adjustable. When I got the PM3 the clutch would slip on anything over 6 so the rest of the power level's were useless to me.

Now that I have a clutch that holds I'm going to DDIII's and a HX40. Your EGT's will climb pretty quick with a PM3 like mine and I'm running a strait pipe.

To get your truck in the 12's is gonna take ALOT of work and money. While it would be nice to have a truck that fast you need to be realistic. I'm not trying to squash your goals but getting a 7400# truck in the 12's is pretty tough. Look at some of the folks who have there trucks going close to that fast and what they have done$$$$$ It reminds me of an old saying "You can't turn a pig (not that our trucks are pigs but you get the point) into a thorough (sp?) bred, but you can make it one quick &*^%$# PIG!" And also to quote Mad Max "Speed is just a question of money. How fast do you want to go?"

Like I said, I'm not trying to shoot ya down, just want to let ya know what your in for. Some other folks can give you a good idea of what you will need to reach your goal and I wish the best of luck to ya.

Take it easy.

Well guys, Money is of little concern here. . The goal is to go low 12's with this truck. . I do hear what you are saying about the stick being slower than an auto... I have come to that conclusion by what the truck does compared to my '99 auto. I am looking into some alcoa wheels that will enable me to install some meats. ( 1 large drag radial vs. the dually)

Its going to very extremely hard to get low 12's with that truck,I dont care how much money you throw at it. It weighs to much, and with the 6 speed you'll spend to much time shifting, and off boost. If your lucky, you'll get in the low 14's. I would have a 2wd reg cab, stripped, auto,DTT work, all mods, slicks,+ LPG/NOS,then you might get low 12's consistently.

Personally, I would go with injectors next.

As with any high performance engine the cost per horsepower gets much higher as you increase power.

You might as well go with the upgrades that give you the biggest horsepower jump per dollar now. Those options won't be available at 500+ HP and it takes a lot of the fun out of it.

Besides you might end up needing a P7100 and the boxes will be of no use then. :)

Good luck in achieving your goal. What are your personal limits?

Are you willing to strip out the interior for weight reduction?

Are you willing to go with a p7100?

Do you want to keep it as a daily driver?

I think it's fairly safe to say you would be the first to take a 4x4 dually diesel into the 12's. You would also be the first diesel w/o an automatic to be in the 12's, I believe.

Good luck again. There has to be leaders out there, it might as well be you.

CAn someone retrofit a p7100 pump to these 24 valve motors, I have access to a large bosch pump off a mack dump truck, and a large turbo. the motor is a 500 hp e7... would this be too much for a cummins 5. 9

E7Mack do a search on the P7100 pump on a 24V engine, there has been some talk about it, and I think there is even a truck or two that have changed to the inline pump. One was done, just because they were told it couldn't be done. but it not as easy has unbolting the VP and install the P pump. . the mounting is different which means that the front plate on the engine must be changed, which means the front of the engine must be torn down... Some have said it would just be easier to change engines. Not trying to throw a lose wrench into your plans. . but I think serious $$$$$$ are needed for your 7400lbs truck to run in the 12's... but I"m sure it can be done... Good luck. . and keep us filled in on your truck...
