Let's talk about the PowerMax 3. Anybody have one yet?? After talking to Joe Donnelly about the new box at the Texas rally, I went to the TST Website and was checking out the ratings for the new box. (385/885 at the Flywheel) I am not sure how much power it puts to the ground, but past experience with my 96 tells me those numbers will be close. I also noticed that prices have finally droped.

Anyone?

I think I had one of the first PM3s. I upgraded from a PM2. I have the 275hp injectors as well.

The power is almost unusable with a stock clutch, but when the clutch holds the power is amazing. Unlike the Pm2 and prior, the pm3 starts adding fuel at something like . 2 psi, instead of 2 psi. So it is pretty much always adding fuel. No turbo lag whatsoever. I think it starts cutting fuel above 2800 rpm.

I've found the EGTs manageable, simply because I have a 4" exhaust system. I am not sure what the EGTs would be with stock exhaust.

TST makes a great product and are very helpful.

Hope this helps.

Craig

I am also contemplating getting a PM3. I have read elsewhere on the forums that it now has 8 adjustable power levels. I also like the fact of it fueling at low boost to help with turbo lag. I plan to call TST and find out all the details. My concern is how smooth the power is delivered. I had a blue-box on a previous truck, and no matter how I configured it, it almost always was jerky and I would have to turn it off, then back on to reset it. It even caused a check engine light several times. Just my . 02.

Update:
Just called TST and was told they have a new box coming out this Friday, 10/06, that will have 10 levels of power. It will be adjustable from level 1 being barely over stock to level 10 being the current PM3 output. I was told it will be priced at $699. I was not told all the particulars of the new box, but I'm hoping it will have the fueling at low boost like the PM3. If so, I might just have to get one!

Mike, I've been thinking of upgrading myself sometime in the future. I have the PM2 now and I'm thinking of adding a VA and 275 injectors. The clutch is already at its limit with just the PM2 so I will need another upgrade before I change boxes.

Check out the competition version. You have to sign a waiver that you won't use it on the street.

Is there really a different version of the PM3? The website shows the one box and recommends it for competition use. Also, is there knob on the unit to fine tune or adjust power? This is one of the things I like about the PE. I can run on a lower power setting when hauling heavy loads, or in the event someone else drives the truck.

I posted a thread on the 24 valve forum asking about the timing. That is what I miss with the VA. I sure wish I had kept it. It was a great combo with the 275’s, and the PE.

Anybody interested in an Original TST PowerMax1? This is one of the first ones that Mark sold. It adds fuel all the way to the redline and I believe it makes more power than the current PM2.

I want to upgrade to the new adjustable PowerMax because with the DD Stage 3's, the PM1 adds too much. I can't believe I just said that. What I mean is, too much power for my automatic. Yah, that's better...

Guys... . Here is the info I reveived from TST a while back... .

Our goal is to provide the best power upgrade for the money while insuring
durability of the product. Our computer is designed to provide maximum
power at safe temperatures, yet meeting emission law. Our first there
levels of power have past the strict CARB emissions standards while also
protecting the engine by moderating the rate of fueling increase and
limiting the engine rpm at which fuel is added. Our emission legal
computers add up to 135 hp and 375 torque above stock at the ground which
equate so about 375 at the flywheel. We can make over 400 but not pass the
CARB tests.

Our current computers add 50. 80. or 135 hp at the ground for $599 and we
are now accepting orders for 8 power level computers for $699. The current
computers can be upgraded to the 8 level version. We plan to offer an
exhaust temperature controlled 8 level computer in a month which also can be
added to the current computer. Below is our standard answer:

TST offers power improvements for to the '98-'01 24 valve in two stages:

1. ) We offer an injector kit ($399 includes shipping) which increases power
50 horsepower and 100 lb-ft of torque at the ground on '98-'00 automatics.
These same injectors add 33 horsepower and 66 lb-ft at the ground on
manuals and '01 automatics. Throttle response and low end acceleration are
definitely improved with this addition. Fuel economy normally improves 5%
with this change. Injectors can be installed within about 3 hours by most
do it yourself enthusiasts. No special tools are required that can't be
bought at most any Sears or auto store. These are new Bosch injectors
approved by Cummins on their 275 hp 660 torque motorhome engines. These
injectors do not wash oil off cylinder walls and dribble at idle like some
of the aftermarket turned up injectors that are modified former Bosch
injectors.

2. ) TST has developed an add-on computer which takes over control of the
injection pump for the ultimate torque increase. Our price for this add-on
computer, the PowerMax, is $599 with starting power level 50 horsepower and
160 lb-ft of torque above stock at the ground. PowerMax2 adds 80
horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque at the ground. PowerMax 3 adds 130 hp
and 375 torque at the ground. This add-on takes about half an hour to
install and normally has no affect on tank mileage. Manual transmissions
work with either PowerMax or PowerMax 2 power levels however automatics may
require the aid of a valve body upgrade kit for the PowerMax2 level.

Exhaust gas temperatures are normally safe on PowerMax on PowerMax2 however
we do recommend use of pyrometers. The PowerMax3 will give extreme exhaust
temperatures and is not for towing.

Combining stages 1 and 2 are additive. With PowerMax 3, automatics
transmission will require valve body enhancements, and the manual
transmissions will require a clutch upgrade.

The TST Gauge Kits, Exhaust Brake Kits, and automatic transmission kits work
with the 24 valve.
