Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) PowerMax2 or Smarty

I am wondering which to buy, PowerMax2 or Smarty? I have a 95 w/#6 TST plate and love it. My 01 just seems kind of weak towing for being a H. O. Not like my 95 was stock, but not what I was expecting I guess I just got used to having that extra torque on tap :-laf Well any input is appreciated. Thanks.

I would get a Smarty. I have one and even though it is only set on level 3, I love how it woke up everything. I would get gauges before you use the Smarty, because it can draw the FP down if your LP is about shot. Level 3 will make some smoke, but not near as much as the other levels. IMHO, the Smarty is the best thing I have done so far to my 02.

I have the exact same truck as you. My first mod was gauges, then RV 275's. I was pulling campers for a living at the time. Then added the Catcher. WOW!!! Then the Smarty, now a TST, and again WOW!



The Smarty completely changes the way the engine acts and responds. The TST definitely adds power but not in the way the Smarty does.



For best results get both with some bigger sticks, then turbo, then...

The powermax may add more peak HP but the Smarty will give you torque and response that you will USE every day. The Smarty feels like no other mod I've done. Definately get the Smarty first then bigger injectors.

Smarty first - Powermax later when your budget will allow. The Smarty will really help your towing power a lot.

I would love to buy both but only one is in the budget right now.

I would start with a fuel system fass, bullydog, glacier, Vulcan or what ever you prefer. Then pyrometer,boost & fuel pressure gauge. Smarty is by far the choice for towing & I've tried Superchips, Banks, Bullydog & edge, but if you want more towing power & more fun. Go Smarty. :-laf

If you go Smarty first, consider going to the TST PM3 with a remote. This set-up gives you very good on the fly adjustability with the ability to turn up the power or turn it down with the TST, but still gives you a controllable base line for when you are working your truck.

I guess there is a three cylinder high idle cold mode? It sure would beat my 12v where I would have no heat for what seemed like forever.
