Have you guys/gals heard of bad powersteering pumps? I just took my truck to the shop today to get its 3rd PS pump in the last 10K miles. I dont do any hard driving mostly just up and down I80 to get to school and work. my truck is an 06 with auto... . Is there anything i can do or do I just have to put up with the inconvience of replacing these things?

Could it be a belt/pump alignment issue? Maybe the pump when it is installed is misaligned causing premature pump failure. You might be able to check by placing a straight edge across the pump pulley and one of the other accessory pulleys. Just a thought.

I agree that three failures sounds weird... the root cause of the problem has definitely not been addressed.

I wonder if they are completly flushing the entire system or not. sounds like some debris may be in the lines or cooler killing the pump.

Good idea. Sounds plausible. No reason to fail 3 pumps in 10k, but of course the dealer has little interest in finding the real cause.

haha well thanks for all the great ideas however i just got my truck back and needless to say the dealer techs are not too bright. When they installed the last pump they filled the pump way up as full as it would go so the "leaking" was just overfill... go figure... thanx guys

I had to have mine replaced at about 20,000 on Sat. July 3rd 2005. I had to wait 2 days to get it replaced, but at least it was still under warranty. I haven't had any problems since (knock on wood). I hope your troubles are fixed so you can enjoy your great truck!

Well that's good news. I love it when it's a simple answer.
