My boss has a 99 f*&d PS that I think either an injector is beginning to plug or a fuel filter is in need of a change. He wants me to help him change it tomorrow, but I have never changed one on a PS. I know there are a lot of folks out there who have come to the greener side of the fence who used to own Fords.

I haven't even opened the hood to see where the silly thing is yet. Knowing Ford they probably built the rest of the engine around it.

Hope I can get some advise and tricks for an easy change.

Thanks

fuel filter change

although i would not own one, i have serviced several psd's. Open the hood and look at the center front of the engine, their should be a black plastic cover. It has a latch, open it and underneath you will find the filter housing. Use a screwdriver across the lugs on the cap and unscrew the filter housing cover. Inside you will find the filter. Your new filter will come with new O rings, three if I remember correctly. Replace the o rings and ensure inside the filter housing is clean. fill the filter housing a little more than half full of clean diesel and slowly immerse the new filter and seat all the way. Re-install the cover and start the engine, check for leaks. By the way, the instructions are in the box with the new filter! Hope this helps!

Thats the ONE good thing about a PSD IMHO. A fuel filter change is only about a 2 minute ordeal tops. And they start alot better afterwards also.

Thanks for the info!! It was a piece of cake to change and man was it dirty. The boss said it was like a totally different pick-up afterwards.

When he was describing what it was doing he said it was starting to run like a dodge, so my response was "Oh, so it hauls a$$ and goes up and down hills like they aren't even there".

:D :D

He didn't think it was near as funny as I did.

Heck, Shovelhead, it does't even have a radiator cap!!!!

A friend who had one a couple years old asked my how to change the coolant in his truck. I opened the hood to check it out and no radiator cap!!

PSD Fuel filter

  1. Remove old filter and discard in an enviromentaly safe manner.
  2. Discard PSD (Someone may need a boat anchor)
  3. Use new filter for ashtray on workbench

    [/list=1]

    :D :D :D

Boat anchor

Probaly wouldn't work too good as even a boat anchor. The way they cavitate they wouldn't last a week. All you would have left would be the rope ;) :D :D :D . Doug
