if you think about it though it really is a shame that these people are buying powerchokes especially the new ones and thinking they are getting a great product. the 6. 0 really sounded great when you read about it in truck trend a year ago but i personally seen 2 sitting alongside the road this month alone waiting for a tow. 1 i saw in his own driveway waiting to be towed to the dealer. the older 7. 3 weren't much better as far as realiability either. with the amount of powerchokes i have seen towed this year (which is quite a few) i have only seen one ctd being towed. stop powerstroking and start cummin :D

Hey Klingsbury Light heavy duty doesn't mean medium duty. That doesn't make sense. There are 3 classifications of Heavy duty, light, medium and heavy. If you look at the F-650/750 they are medium duty trucks. The powerstroke is the standard engine the 5. 9ISB is an option. Option means better or premium right. Am I right.

I appreciate you making part of my point for me. The Powerstroke is used in medium duty trucks, as you said it comes standard on 650s and 750s. If you ask Ford I am sure they will say it is a medium duty engine. I would imagine the reason the Cummins is an option is that Ford doesn't make it. Why would they put someone elses engine in their truck as standard equipment? They want to make as much money as they can and they can't do it by selling other peoples stuff. I am sure you can also get a Cat as an option too. It is customer preference. Medium duty trucks are geared toward fleets. Most fleet owners try to buy stuff with commonality in mind, that's why the medium duty trucks on up are available with just about any combo of drivetrain imagineable. As for the Powerstroke/T444E differences, I'd be intersted to see what they are, so if you like FANZDSLPWR you can scan the letter you got and e-mail it to me so you can set me straight.

It doesn't matter what Ford says the International engine is the EPA says it is a light heavy duty motor the Cummins is a medium heavy duty motor why can't you seem to gasp this simple concept.

I was talking with one of the guys that I work with the other day who is a Ford Power Stroke owner. He says the the PS will beath the cummins off the line which is fine by me. But however he says that when he is towing his camper trailer up the hills doing 30mph here comes the dodge cummins flying by at 60mph with no sweat. Now if that isn't something to be proud of I don't know what is.

""" Why would they put someone elses engine in their truck as standard equipment? ""

You mean like Navistar .

Cummins In a dodge

International is in alot of stuff

Its done all the time FORD wanted a small Diesel for the ranger they had bids from CUMMINS<JOHN DEERE< NAVISTAR < CAT and a few others after deliberations they picked the CUMMINS ... . for real ..... DC slapped CUMMINS hand and said they wanted them to be just for dodges in pass. vehicals so CUMMINS being a GOOD boy TOLD ford they cant ... . FORD STUCK THERE NOSES UP and SAID FINE WE (FORD) will design and develope our own small diesel . TO THE DISTESS OF THE FAMED NAVISTAR

Good for FORD it should be a good motor but I think it would of been cool to see a ranger with JOHN DEERE on the side of it.

Let me clear up my original post. Dieselminded said Ford still uses Cummins in their larger trucks and presumably not the Powerstroke. You Neibe proved my point that indeed Ford uses the Powerstroke in trucks up to F750s. My point was that indeed Powerstrokes are used in larger trucks, along with just about any engine under the sun, not just Cummins. I don't under stand how "light heavy-duty" can mean light truck when the quote clearly says the California rating is for trucks over 14,000 GVW, a medium duty truck. And why would International qualify an engine for light trucks when they didn't even make one? Remember, this sticker was on a '96 T444E which isn't a light engine and nothing like the powerstroke according to FNAZDSLPOWR.

I own one of each. I bought new and still own a 92 W250 Cummins. I also own a 04 F350 with the Powerstroke. I looked at the new Dodge trucks and went with the Ford ONLY because Ford offered two options important to me for the work that I do.

1. Dual Alternator configuration - When working on site I often draw over 150 Amps from the truck electrical system. The dual alts allow me to do that and are able to keep up.

2. AIC - (Automatic Idle Controller - External box option which can be ordered with the truck to adjust engine speed to maintain battery charge or other options) Allowed me to set engine speed while parked to maintain electrical charge.

I would LOVE to see Dodge offer similar options. If they did, there would be no doubt which truck I would choose.

Of course I could upgrade the base truck using aftermarket alternator or "black boxes", but I don't have the time to mess around with making all the changes.

But I will tell you that I Will Not be keeping the Ford as long as I have kept the Dodge. Tomorrow morning the Dodge will be quite busy working hard on the new snow we're supposed to get tonight, just like it has for the last 12 years! Always starts, always does it's job and rarely complains. :)

Just look him in the eyes and say you have a chain in the truck let see who has a truck. Any how if you go to one of the ford room all those ford guys say about all there problems.

If the Ford makes him happy, great! I'd just tell my friend, "I won't ask you to drive my truck, if you don't make me drive yours. " :-{}

keep it cummins guys

wow I learned alot about our cummins !! I have a 92 4x2 5speed !! my first diesel !!! I thought that engine looked tuff !! thanks guys keep it cummins ???

You could ask them to go to www.thedieselstop.com

And Do A search for junk cummins or anything of that manner and what they will see is the mods jumping in and saying the CTD is a far Better motor than the PSD

Atleast thats all I found while looking for some CTD bashing to clean up ... . I havent done that in a while maybe its about time I checked :>

I have both the powerstroke and the new mega cab. I like both trucks both feel like they have good power but have power at different bands. The airconditioning in the dodge mega cab is a joke. No one even likes to drive the mega cab in the summer. A/c in the chevy and ford trucks are twice as good as the dodge units. The dodge airconditioner puts out half the air more noise and the air is not as cold. We love the room in the mega cab but it cant even cool itself down on a hot summer day. If you start the truck turn on the a/c let it run for about a hour and then go down the freeway on a trip the a/c is fine. The dodge truck a/c is fine if the outside air temp is below 95 degrees. We have 3 of the new mega cabs had them all in for service to check a/c all were fine said the dealer. We have a ranch in the high country so we try to keep them up there where it does not get hot. Our chevy duramax's drive the nicest and seem to probably have more power. The chevy's are very well made but are really low to the ground.

To clear up the EPA confusion

the designation Medium Heavy Duty vs Light Heavy Duty.

The first term (Light, Medium, or Heavy) refers to the life expectancy of the emission control systems- fuel systems, turbo, etc. The second term (L, M, or H) refers to the duty cycle or intended use. So, they are both actually heavy duty, but the PSD has a shorter life expectancy than the CTD. Look on the data tag of a NTC engine and you will see Heavy Heavy Duty, meaning a life expectancy of the emission system is something like a million miles. (I could be wrong on the numbers, though)

CTD vs. Powerjoke

I have been a Mopar fan since buying my Road Runner in 69. My 92 CTD is the first diesel I have ever had. From everything I have read or heard I will never have any other diesel than a CTD.

I'd rather be Cummin than Strokin!

My favorite....

Even Ford knows Cummins is better... that's why it is the standard motor in the F-650/750 models. Nuff said.
